Maintenance & Repairs - February 2007

I had a wreck not too long ago in my brand new truck. I mean *brand new*. The damage went into the core support but I'm not sure of the magnitude of the damage. The radiator and fan are crushed, the guts of my truck like the shock tower are hanging out, the hood is concaved about 6 inches and the bumper is completely demolished among many other details; however, I heard that the adjuster would only total it if the cost to repair exceeds what we paid...I highly doubt the repairs will get that expensive plus the truck was brand new. Everyone I've talked to says it can be repaired (my wise old father, my mechanic, even the body shop fellow) but I'd appreciate opinions from people who don't know me and therefore aren't just trying to cheer me up. Like I said..the damage is into the core support...bent frame, damaged radiator, damaged shock tower, destroyed grill and bumper...but it was new. And precious.

I'm looking for more pep/speed out of my Jag. I was wondering if it's possible to buy a supercharger for it and have it installed. If so, where can I get it/get it done? I'm not very knowledgeable with auto stuff so I have no idea. I have a 1997 Jaguar XK8.

I don't even drive, asking this question for someone else. Thanks.

I have a problem with my 1999 Focus where the idle revs seem to fluctuate a little. I have noticed they do it more when you have the lights, radio and heated screens on. Could this be something to do with the alternator? The more things on – the more it will do it.
I asked a question on here before and found out that my fan belt may need replacing, could this have something to do with it?

The car does not have really erratic revs sorts of revs however they do move up and down slightly when it is idle, if you have a few things on in the car, the revs drop and then go up and then drop, i think they go down by one needle point. In the dark, the lights will dim.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It seems to do it a little bit more when it is cold, but other than that it is pretty indescriminate. Also, when I let off the gas and the rpms fall my lights will go dim for a bit.

I have a 2005 Toyota and I haven't been able to get my tune ups on time because of the high cost of fuel, and just plain being broke.

My 87 GM pickups check engine light came on.The code is reading # 32 which is replace the EGR valve.I reset the computer to erase the code and the light came on again reading the same thing a couple of days later.I just replaced the EGR valve less than 6 months ago.Is it possible that the EGR vacuum solenoid is bad and not the EGR valve itself. Thanks

I have a '93 rodeo, drove 40 miles to work this morning. When I pulled in the lot at work, hot water spewed out of the overflow tank (nice steam cloud that freaked me out). The car was not running hot according to the temp guage and after cooling down, the radiator was full (soo the flow back is working), just the overflow tank was down. If it was the thermostat, I would assume the car would run hot. I have not added fluid to the overflow tank recently either. Any suggestions?

I have been given a license plate holder that at the bottom of the holder can show a small led message of my choice (just at the bottom of the holder, not all the way around it). I have a question going on now on installing it, but I was making sure that it was legal in New York first before I went through with it.

I changed out the ignition coil because my car died and wouldn't start on Monday. It cranks and runs now, but the idle is real hard while not running. Hard to the point where it shakes the engine and the car. This was not the way it ran before I changed the Ign. Coil. Also, instead of running smooth, its sputtering while running.

My 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe used to get 17-25 miles per gallon, and over the course of the winter, has decreased to about 13.5 miles per gallon. Is there anything I can do to improve this, as I need to sell it ASAP for personal reasons? I'm not getting any help from the dealer, probably due to the fact that it's still under warranty. Thanks in advance.

I have recently purchased these license plate holders that display a led message below the plate. The installation manual says I can connect the power wire to the brake light power to only come on during a stop, or to the power line that goes to the trunk and have it run constantly. I want to only have it come on when I am stopped. I also have to attach a ground wire. Any help on how I would do this would be appreciated!

Have now told me that they cannot restart the engine and they dont know why, the hours they are spendng on this without success is unbelievable, without any outcome. What can I do? Taking the car back or to another garage is not an option as they are the only garage for 60 miles.

I have a 2005 Pontiac Vibe. In the past month, every so often when I start my car, is seems like the engine doesn't want to turn over. It always does, it just takes a few more seconds than normal. I have to hold the key in the start position for a longer time. I haven't had any other problems with the car since I bought it. My dad seems to think that it could be just a bad connection to the battery. If thats the case, isn't that an easy fix? I really don't want to have to leave my car at the dealership if I don't have to. What's your opinion? Thanks so much!
