Follow up to yesterdays question;

$208 was the price for the part only, not installed.
I have just about every tool known to man, and have done complete engine rebuilds etc....
Was just wondering if this was the kind of job that the "PIA" value makes farming it out an option.
Resolution: Retired Volvo mechanic friend has a good 'previously owned' one, likes to do small side jobs, so is doing that for me today.

Thanks for the input

Bill

I have a 1990 Miata, manual. A fricken' trooper. She's got just over 260,000 miles on her with no major work done. It has a problem in the cold mornings of always grinding between the high gears for the first 5-10 min, afterwards which it stops. She also has another problem: Sputtering and putting. Mainly in 1st and 2nd gear. She's not as fast as she used to be overall, and besides the understandable "She's old, let her go." answer(which I plan on doing soon anyway), what other suggestions are there? I did just recently put some oil in. I want to try and give her some of her life back, before she goes under...

PS. Yeah yeah, I know Miata's are referred to as 'girly' cars, but I needed a car, and I got it for free. Plus, that's the main reason I'm getting rid of it. I want to get an Impreza or Lancer personally...

I know you take tests and file papers if eligible...

But how hard are the ASE tests? Does anyone know of "rocks" [read: mentally inept persons] that were able to pass the tests?

Please explain the ASE certification, like what to expect, level of difficulty et cetera...

Thanks, Tim (considering persuing ASE certification)

I jumped in my truck and the oil pressure light came on. It wasn't on the day before. I added some oil, the dipstick is now reading good but I still have no pressure. How do I gain it back?

My car is a 2006 Toyota. I have not had a single problem with it since I brought it home from the dealership in '05. Yesterday, when I got home, I got out of the car and locked it with the remote and it worked just fine. Then this morning when I went to leave I hit the unlock button, and nothing. The lights didn't flash, doors did not unlock. I tried lock and unlock a couple of times. There was no response whatsoever from the car. So I went in the house and grabbed the spare and got the same result. It is highly unlikely that the battery is dead in both units. I unlocked the car by key and then went to work. BUT, when I got to work and tried to lock the car with the remote, it locked it with flashy lights and all. I retried it a couple of times and it's fine. Our remote doorbell went haywire last night too around 11:00. My husband thinks there might be some sort of interference with the electronic equipment in our neighborhood (hasn't happened before). Any explanations?

here's the details, I'm in frigid Wisconsin, the car was running a month or 5 weeks ago, it was having some problems with the wheel bearings (i think) so i parked it and forgot to start her up in between then and now. Now she won't start. It just makes a clicking noise when i try to turn the key. I don't think it's the battery because the lights still come on and the radio works, and i know it's not outa gas because i just put some in. What else could cause a failure to start?

I have a '98 Pontiac Grand Am (almost 170k miles). I have been told by the dealer that only they can fix my ignition column (or switch) in order to get my car started. I was also told they must replace the instrument cluster to start it. All this is close to $700. I don't even see how the two are connected. I can understand the ignition not allowing the car to start, but the cluster? Is it true only the dealership can make this type of repair? Can it be fixed any cheaper? Will the car run if the cluster is bad?

My husband got brake fluid and oil on our pavers in the driveway and on the garage floor. I need to know how to remove the stains. We live in a gated community and there are so many rules one of which is to have no stains on the driveway (pavers). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My ECU is blowing up the transmission control module fuse all the time so i need a replacement i will be installing next week.

I know GM cars need to have the new ECU re programmed to the correct VIN.

But i dont know if something like this needs to be done with my Neon, or is the new computer going to just be "plug and play" ?

And the mileage is stored somewhere in the dashboard right?

Thanks

My vauxhall battery discharges in about 2 weeks. I had a reconditioned altenator and a new battery fitted, (and a new cambelt). It worked fine for a while, but now the battery goes flat 2 weeks or so after I recharge it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
