no . just hand tighten all the bolts. do it again after test drive.

this is sucking air! sounds like Dad's neglected something,there's a pipe that runs from the cam container and splits into 2 pipes,one great is going to the backside of the air filter out housing,the different smaller diameter is going to a stub on the inlet manifold, if the two of those is off,or holed or broken the engine will suck air in by using those,and this air isn't measured by skill of the air bypass meter so the gas air blend is all to hell. so examine that pipe,examine the inlet manifold and everywhere else between the AFM and the throttle physique.

No, I would seal the gasket only to the cover to retain it in place. No need to seal it to the head.
