Take the car to the dealer or someone who has a scanner that can read the codes. If they can read the codes they can tell you why the check engine light is on and they can also reset the light. It may also come back on. As has been mentioned a bad gas cap can cause this problem
You could always just put a small piece of black tape over the light if you want the simple answer

Just disconnect the positive terminal to your battery and let it set for roughly 5-10 minutes, this should reset your computer. If the light then comes on again, than you should get it looked at and figure out why. And make sure your running normal pump gas through it sometimes the ethenol or any alternitave fuel can cause the light to come on.

Most Auto Part stores can shut it off for you. If they turn it off and there is an issue with your car it will come back on. A diagnostic machine runs anywhere from 50 dollars for a basic one and this will allow you to reset the check engine light yourself.

HAHA! Tough one here. My advice to you is to go get one of those hair wax jobs. They stick taype all about your body and then pull the taype off causing you to scream in agony. This will get your mind off of this distress and turn your body red for a couple of days. It's the only way sweet heart

You gas lid may be loose, make sure you turn it at least 5 clicks. Also, your oil cap may be loose.
