I have been given a license plate holder that at the bottom of the holder can show a small led message of my choice (just at the bottom of the holder, not all the way around it). I have a question going on now on installing it, but I was making sure that it was legal in New York first before I went through with it.

I don't see any thing wrong with it. Just don't put anything like BAD COP NO DONUT on it.

Step right up and call your nearest NYS police office. They'll give you the straight scoop. Here in New York I've seen these lights before but I'd ask to save you the trouble of installing. If they are illegal I wouldn't give a trooper an excuse to give you a cheesy ticket. Usually a young cop likes to make mountains out of mole hills. Good Luck.

I know in Illinois they are illegal. They constitute any vehicle with a flashing lights to be an emergency or police vehicle.

Law makers are total chodes.
