I cannot budge the gear shift on my 94 Ford Thunderbird. It is stuck in park. It is very cold outside, but i don't think that's it. What can be the problem?

Hi there, second question today from over here in the UK.
My 70 Dart (318) starts fine and runs fine, apart from gearbox issue, (see other question). Once warm though the oil light faintly comes on when at idle or crawling along. Once I put my foot down it goes out again. The light only comes on when the car is in drive, if in park and at idle no light comes on.
There is plenty of oil in it, just wondered if it is the oil pump worn out or blocked? Hope you can help

J

Recently it has been cold. when I try to start my blazer it takes 20 -30 times be for it will start. It's a 93 blazer, vortec moter. I have 76 lb at the rail, have replaced the coolent temp sensor. After it starts it's ok. good power, no stalling, no hesitation and will start right up after it has been started. Only when I let it sit four about five hours or longer in cold wheather is it hard starting. At also has good spark at the plugs.

It's a fine van! It's a transit, by Ford - getting on a bit but only just out of the spring chicken phase. Anyway, basic situation is that it won't start first thing in the morning - like at 6am. It will start a few hours later alright - and at night. It's battery has been charged up to make sure that isn't the problem. Could anyone give me any idea why it won't start and what I could do to help it start?

Oh, don't know if it make any diference, but its usually about 0 to -5 C and its kept outside in the yard.

Already changed spark plugs, twice. Had a new maf sensor installed. Still getting missfire in cylinder 1. Car rides rough when accerelating- most when accerelating after stopping.

My ancient Rabbit used to leak real bad... now I have to replace the carpets and firewall insulation because they're all moldy.

Where do you get that grayish, linty stuff they use as insulation? Will jute work instead?

What is that stuff even called, properly?

I just had a new battery and some break work done on my front and rear brakes. The oil change is due in less then 700 miles. Could the oil change be ready? Is this an indication? I am bringing it in tomorrow to have it looked at.

So my transmission is stuck in 2nd gear and apparently a cyllinoid(however you spell it) is burned out. B/c it's a VW you have to buy the whole valve body and the transmission has been crap since the beginning. The mechanic I've been taking it to seems to recommend a manual being put into it that would cost about the same and he says probably no more problems. If we fix the automatic transmission some more problems may arise. Either way is about $2000 to fix. It's a 97 Jetta GLS with 109k miles. Which would you do? Plus, I don't want another car payment right now so trading it in is the last option. Plus, I don't know how to drive a manual yet. Thank you!

So, If the head gaskets blew and the cylinders were affected, as well as having oil in the air filter would not surprise anyone?

My mechanic (not the guy) told me my engine needed to be re-built. that would not surprise anyone? Car is a 1985 500SL Mercedes Euro 182k on engine.

Back in the summer i accidently put transmission fluid in the brake fluid resevoir, and now it is costing me 875 bucks to replace the whole brake system...brakes ,calipers, master cylinder, cuttin rotors, fluids, calipers, rear wheel cylinders, etc. as of now no lines need to be replaced... this was a 900 dollar mistake that was my own fault. had i known the damage it would cause i would have had it checked right away.
