I just had a new battery and some break work done on my front and rear brakes. The oil change is due in less then 700 miles. Could the oil change be ready? Is this an indication? I am bringing it in tomorrow to have it looked at.

Normally the check engine light will only deal with emission related problems. Such as a bad sensor or some other running condition.

If the light comes and stays on for about 2 minutes before turning off then it could be related to your oil change interval. The easiest way to check is to take your car to an AutoZone and ask them to use the OBD2 scanner(Provided the car is 97+). That will tell you what the computer thinks is wrong with it.

If it is not you will have to read up on the OBD1 procedures for your year honda.

Check engine lights are primarily for emission problems (egr valve, O2 sensors, etc.). You would have the light for your oil come on if there was a problem with oil pressure, but your oil by itself is likely just fine.

Regardless, it's good that your taking it to the dealer, at least to know what it will be so that when it happens in the future, it won't be such a scare.

You need an upstream o2 sensor. It's the one closest to the enine before the convertor. Simple. DO NOT buy one from Autozone. They don't work. Buy genuine Honda or Denso.

It could be a million different things. Take it to an auto parts store. Many of them can hook it up and see what the problem is.

Remove the battery terminals for 30mins and put them back. This should reset all the sensors. Good Luck.
