The reason the directions say to connect Red to battery and Black to another part is "To AVOID a spark that could cause the battery to BLOW UP"!
Batteries emit Hydrogen gas that is VERY flammable. Connecting to "another part of car" should be a METAL part, like a engine blot or bracket AWAY FROM the battery. The company is trying to protect you from danger. Just make sure the connections are clean and tight and "NO SMOKING" you need be safe.

The charger needs to be plugged in prior to use. It has a battery of its own. After that has been done, connect the red line to the positive side of the battery and connect the black line to a METAL part of the engine. This should work.

Well make sureteh device is fully charged. Yes you put the black clamp on a metal frame of the car a bolt or something that isnt near the battery, this elminates sparks, if you absolutely must, you can clamp it on the black lead of the battery but sparks near the battery can be dangerous. Somee of the boxes have a special switch that has to be turned to engange the starting/charging portion, mine is on the side.

the negative terminal of your battery is the "ground" side, if you connect the black clip of the jump starter to the frame of the car you should be able to get a better connection. You might be better off hooking a battery charger to the battery than trying to jump start.

Well just connect the black part to the engine block. It just needs to be touching something metal. You could do it with the ground terminal of the battery if you wanted to, but there would be a risk (a small risk though) of a fire.

No way you may harm a automobile via leap starting up an yet another automobile! The lifeless automobile makes use of a small volume of electric powered potential to commence its motor which your automobile can spare as its operating already and also you may recharge ur battery in 3-5 minutes again.

Make sure your device is fully charged. Red to positive. Black to a suitable ground with no paint on it. Usually a bolt head will work

I have one too, just make sure it's charged. It also takes some time to transfer the energy from one battery to the other.

lol, i needed one of these bad boys from high school I was awful with leaving my lights on nowadays though there is that beep if you leave them on.
ANyhoo, you must let it charge over night then when you hook it up leave it alone for about 30 minutes then try to start your car.
Let it stay on for an additional 10 minutes or so.
Not the quickets route but it worked for me, I hope it works for you!
Take care.
Hope this helps!
