I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 150,000 miles. My auto tranny shifts fine from 1 to 2nd, but when its cold, it winds out more than it should when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd & shifts into gear fairly hard. 4th & OD are always ok. When the SUV warms up, it shifts fine through all gears. Also, the colder it is outside, the longer it takes it to shift.

I need to remove one of my front suspension wishbones,but I came to a grinding halt when it came to removing the ball joint.I removed the nut on the torq bolt that pinches to ball joint but the bolt itself just keeps turning and wont come out,if I whack a spitter in it just makes the bolt tighter,how the hell does this damn bolt come out?

I had my oil and spark plugs changed recently and the mechanic noted on the work order that I had water in my old oil. The car wasn't overheating and didn't have any loss of power though. Could this be something besides the head gasket?

Could this also have been the cause of the car stalling (like when you stall a manual, but it's an automatic) when at a traffic light? Our last car blew a head gasket, so I know what the loss of power feels like, and this is something completely different. It would start and run fine, but I'd get 3 blocks from home and it would die at a light, very similar to when a manual stalls but this is an automatic, but then was a B*tch to get restarted. It didn't die when I 'test drove' it around after the plugs were changed, but it was still sputtery at full stops. Could this be in the wires and/or distributor cap?

I'm just looking for an idea so I know if the mechanics are feeding me a line when I take it to have it fixed.

My bathroom light just blew and I thought it was only that one, but, none of the lights are working now, but the computer and the TV are.

I just picked my 7 bronco up from the shop yesterday and it started idling funny after I got it home.When I crank it up it is slow to crank, then the truck idles at 3k rpm for 10 secs, drops to 2k then drops low like its go to cut off, shoots up then down a few times then dies. When I drive it, the moment i start to break the car trembles like its going to cut off but when I come to a stop the rpms jerk back up again.I dont even have to be stopping, if i press the break at all the cars starts to act like its going to die.It is also getting poor gas mileage.
Prior to the work it would cut off and sputter.This is what Ive had done: Major tune up,Replaced EGR and cleaned EGR ports, o2 sensor, map sensor, both fuel filters and o ring, and Cat converter.
These are the codes i got before repair: code 41-bank not switching, code33- insficcient EGR flow and code 13 cant control RPM/LOW.
Any help would be great.After 1k and a garauntee that these would fix the problem i am stumped

Bought vehicle maybe 2 months ago-of coarse pulled dip stick and other usual checks before buying.Oil looked good and after looking it over took vehicle home.Well less than 200 miles later oil looks like a bad batch of coffee!I heard the 96 vortex 4.3 v6 engines were known for intake manifold leaks after 100.000 miles,how hard is it for a guy whos very handy to do himself?How do i know to replace gasket or manifold itself?Would overheat sometimes so i removed thermastat and loosened rad.cap so pressure wouldnt build.Fugure i had some time to fix.But on first run this way overheated even worse stalled and hasent started since.Is it junk?

I HAVE A 1995 OLDS CUTLASS CIERA AND I'M THINKING ABOUT REMOVING THE MUFFLER AND ADDINING STRAIGHT PIPE ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE BECUASE I LIKE THE SOUND. THIS IS ESPECIALLY SO; NOW THAT THE MUFFLER SEEMS TO BE GOING BAD. MY ONLY CONCERN IS WILL I BE LOSING GAS MILEAGE. I DRIVE 40+ MILES PER DAY AND I WOULD LIKE TO SUSTAIN THE GAS MILEAGE THAT I AM GETTING NOW WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY 26MPG COMBINED CITY AND HIGHWAY DRIVING, OR EVEN BETTER; INCREASE THE GAS MILEAGE.

Hi, the car starts immediately when I hook her up with jump leads from my wife's car, but not a flicker when I try to start her alone. I have a feeling that if she does this, then it *can't* be the alternator, but rather, the battery, which may have run flat.

Plus, all the warning lights are on the dash panels when I put the key in to start her.

Advice please?

I noticed it soon after the car temp. was above normal. I haven't driven it since then. I'm assuming the worst, which is to replace the motor itself but I can't find a good website that specifically has what i need. The car is a "1998 pontiac grand prix SE" . Also, how much will this typically cost?
