I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 150,000 miles. My auto tranny shifts fine from 1 to 2nd, but when its cold, it winds out more than it should when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd & shifts into gear fairly hard. 4th & OD are always ok. When the SUV warms up, it shifts fine through all gears. Also, the colder it is outside, the longer it takes it to shift.
Thanks!

Your transmission is just getting older/wore out. There are numerous clutches and steels inside your transmission and overtime they just wear out. Doing what that other guy said and changing your fluid/filter out and putting in some of that transmission restore stuff in a can might help out a little but isn't going to totally solve your problem. Trust me I have been building transmissions for going on 10 years now. You may also take it somewhere and see if it has any codes in the computer. Some time the shift solinoids can go bad, speed sensors, etc.

I would take it and get a tranny fluid change. A clogged tranny filter can cause this. Then they can check for metal shavings in the pan to see if tranny has serious problems. Check your tranny dipstick and see if the fluid is burned on the stick.
