I have a '73 Chevy Impala that has a 350 engine with a th-350 tranny. I've always wanted a big block, so I shopped around and found a '78 Chevy Silverado 3/4 ton truck with a 454 engine and th-400 transmission that is in excellent running condition. I want to take the engine and tranny out of my Impala and replace it with the engine and tranny from the Chevy truck. people I talk to say it is a easy engine swap as the Impala has mounts for the 454 and th-400 since it was an option back then. I am not a mechanic, but I do know cars and tools and have experience since I was a teen. I have always repaired all cars I have owned, but never have I done a engine/tranny swap from another vehicle. i don't want to spend $1500 to have my local shop do it, but would consider it if it is going to be a pain in the a$$!

Questions: What am I getting myself into? Can this be done over a weekend? Should I bring this to a shop? Any issues you all forsee with this project?

Thanks in advance!

what is the highest octane gas you can buy for your car. I read somewhere you could get high octane gas from the airport, and my automotive teacher said he used to get 106 ocatne for his car.

Where should I look for the problem of a ground? the engine is grounded to the firewall and the engine is grounded to the frame via the motor mount.Do I need to run a ground wire from the cab to the frame, also? Also my overhead lights quit working and after hooking them up direct to the battery sparks flew.

I have to keep the engine at high rpms to keep it running. It runs ok with more than half a tank. What could be the problem? It is a 2001 dodge durango 5.9 R/T. It won't idle during this time either.

Question is for Tucson owners or those who know ... is there ample room for a REAR FACING child seat behind the passenger seat? We are considering this vehicle and my Wife is quite tall. We're wondering if the front seat has to be in it's most forward position to accomodate the rear facing seat.

Thanks!

I have a '65 Mustang Coupe with a 289 Small Block V8 (4bbl).

It was running fine, but then stopped. I'm somewhat mechanically inclined, but when I couldn't figure it out, I asked my dad to take a look at it.

We got the timing set correctly on the distributor (it's easy to get them 180 deg. out), but we noticed that as you crank the engine by hand, if you put your finger over the spark plug hole you feel it pushing air out (compression stroke - both valves closed, piston coming up) when the piston was all the way up, the rotor wouldn't be firing #1, even though it is set correctly.

My dad was convinced that it had jumped time - so I pulled everything off the front of the engine and took the timing cover off. I am looking at the cam gear (top big one) and the crank gear (bottom small one). Supposedly (according to the book) there should be a mark on the cam gear that should be pointing down when the crank gears keyway is pointing up.

There have been diesel motorcycles introduced in the past. There are also a few in production now. Diesel motorcycles can now be made lighter and more reliable than in the past. I have often wondered if a diesel cruiser motorcycle were introduced would it be well received today.

I was in a car accident on Sunday where the other party was at fault (and cited). I was fine until this morning I started having excruciating back pain. It hurts to move or do anything! I really hate to be a complainer and I am NOT looking to get "pain and suffering $", so I don't know what the best thing for me to do is. I can't think of any other reason why my back would be bothering me. If it's still the same on Monday, would it be OK to contact a chiropractor or should I talk to the other party's insurance company first? I've had several letters from chiropractors come this week offering free consultations, but that seems really shady.

Advice?
