I was in a car accident on Sunday where the other party was at fault (and cited). I was fine until this morning I started having excruciating back pain. It hurts to move or do anything! I really hate to be a complainer and I am NOT looking to get "pain and suffering $", so I don't know what the best thing for me to do is. I can't think of any other reason why my back would be bothering me. If it's still the same on Monday, would it be OK to contact a chiropractor or should I talk to the other party's insurance company first? I've had several letters from chiropractors come this week offering free consultations, but that seems really shady.

Advice?

The accident was five days and I was perfectly fine right afterward. I've read that some injuries from accidents don't come about for weeks following an accident, but I also don't want to seem like I'm trying to do this for money. I just want to be able to move pain-free (and pick up my puppy, lol). I'm hopefully after a weekend of resting it will be OK.

Not weeks, days. The worst achiness from sore muscles comes between 48 and 72 hours after the accident.

If you're in pain, see a doctor first to rule out something else. If you want to "collect" any pain and suffering, or even medical bills, you're going to need a DOCTOR to declare you injured. Chiropractors are NOT doctors.

Talk to YOUR AGENT first. Some states severely limit your injury options; you don't specify your state, so you might be on your own, even if the other guy IS at fault.

Those chiropractors are ambulance chasers - trying to drum up business. Even if you can't collect from the other guy, they'll still be able to get paid BY YOU.

Don't go to a chiropractor - they will always find something wrong. In addition - a chirp is NOT a medical doctor - he is not an MD. He cannot prescribe medication or practice in a hospital.

If you need medical treatment - start with your family Dr. He knows your history and will probably give you a prescription for an anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxant. These can really help the pain. If physical therapy is needed - your Dr can refer to you a physical therapist.

go to the hospital it could be a bad injury.. you could have even broken your back.. go get checked.. after the accident did you get out and move or did someone move you because they shouldn't have.. you never move after an accident they should only take you to the hospital on a stretcher.. unless of course it was just a tap in the back that wasnt horrible but you got some whip lash.. but if it was a bad accident go to the hospital and get checked.
