Where should I look for the problem of a ground? the engine is grounded to the firewall and the engine is grounded to the frame via the motor mount.Do I need to run a ground wire from the cab to the frame, also? Also my overhead lights quit working and after hooking them up direct to the battery sparks flew.

Check the batt. ground to the frame. It should be the small wire coming from the ground cable at the battery post. to the body. Not the big one going to the motor.

The fuel gage has a ground wire on the back of the gage. It gets rusty and bad connection.
The lights have a blown fuse from hooking them up backwards or the bulbs are bad.

The ground connections have probably corroded. Remove them and clean them. This happened to my '80 CJ-5.
