I have a 2003 Hyundai Elantra GLS, I bought it brand new that year. It has just under 75,000 miles on it. It still runs great, I just replaced the origonal battery last week actually; It has never really had a "Tune up", because, it has allways worked well, and I just dont have the money to do it. But should I? The car is totally paid off, and I am NOT planning on buying a new one any time soon so I want this car to last a long time. Should I change to that High milage Motor oil, the type for 75k+ cars? Or is that just a scam? Does it make a difference, I mean the car works great. I put dry gass and treatment in the tank when I fill up, more in the winter. It is a 5-speed standard BTW. I have all new tires, and front breaks on it, just had my break job like 3 months ago, if that. New wipers etc. Just trying to prevent a major break down before one happens, I remember my first vehicle was a 92 Ford F-150 truck, it was expensive to fix. Well any advice would be great!! THX!

The doorjam of my Ford Explorer says they should be 26 psi. I've NEVER (even in the winter) had them that low. They appear flat and make noise below 35 psi, but I worry that overshooting could be dangerous. Are gas station air gauges just inaccurate?

By the way the current temps are in the 90s here. The Explorer weighs approx. 4000 lbs.

I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Classic which I love. It's got like 135K miles on it, and I've had to replace some parts but now it runs well. I'm currently deployed for another 8 months or so, so my Jeep just sits, except when my mom drives it to work once or twice a week. She thinks I should sell it and just buy a newer used car or a new car when I get back not not risk having to put a lot of work into my Jeep. However, I think it's worth it to put in a little work into it, and save my deployment money for grad school.

Do you think with the mileage that my Jeep had a few more years left in it? I love it and don't want to sell it, but will if it isn't worth it in the long run. I just want it to last me like maybe 4 more years, more if at all possible. Is it worth it?

after about a month i went ahead and changed the oil, after having the place change it I double checked to make sure they put the right amount in and they did, and then about 2 months later I checked my oil to see if I needed to add any and to see if it was very dirty, i had to add 2 1/2 quarts because is was low, with it being this low would it have done very much damage to the engine.

I want to be able to use them in fresh water during the summer and winterize them during the offseason. I'm not a mechanic and don't know a whole lot about them.

I have an old honda del sol, ive never had any problems with it what so ever, it had 42k miles on it, and the other day i was driving on some back roads and out of no where smoke started pouring in from the ac so i turned the ac off and pulled over on the side of the road, i then tried to turn the car off but it wouldnt turn off but the key would come out, so i started walking over to someones house so i could call for help, right before i started knocking on the door i looked back at the car and there was tons and tons of thick black smoke billowing out of the exhaust and then all at once the entire car exploded into about an18 or 20 foot fireball, so the firederpartment had to come and put it out and stuff, the car is completely destroyed, do yall have any idea of what may have happened?

the paint on my car hood has been peeling for a while. the spot keeps getting bigger (though right now its kinda stopped for a bit). the biggest spot is about half a foot long x a few inches. there are two main spots. is there anything i can spray on or put on it to keep it from peeling further. can you prime the spot and then paint it or what?

I like how Ford is now going up with their designs and, especially, their quality. I really like the new design that doesn't look boring and average like the past ones did. I am really astonished by the interior which looks like a Honda or Nissan. The exterior looks like it could be a Honda or Nissan too. It is good to hear they are now making a coupe version to keep up with the Civic. It will also feature the Ford Sync, if you people know about that. http://www.syncmyride.com/ Hopefully, they come out with a hybrid Focus. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://news.windingroad.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/01/08-ford-focus004-600.jpg&imgrefurl=http://news.windingroad.com/body-stylesmarket-segment/coupes/ford-reveals-new-focus-sedan-coupe-for-2008/&h=600&w=450&sz=73&hl=en&start=1&um=1&tbnid=SdEETUjSfad76M:&tbnh=135&tbnw=101&prev=/images%3Fq%3D2008%2Bford%2Bfocus%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official

When your car is idling, it consumes a little bit of fuel...the rev is about 700rpm...

When you are coasting downhill, foot off pedal, gears engaged.. the engine rev will be much higher than 700rpm...

is the fuel consumption during those moments higher since the engine rev is higher.....? but your foot is off the pedal....

No one taught me. I know nothing about cars. Daddy taught me to hunt, and make love, but he died before he was able to teach me about them cars.

So where do you people know so much about the basics of cars? Do you take classes? Maybe I should, because how can a man not know a thing about cars?

Hi:
I have a question regarding my transmission. Recently when I drove at 40mph, my rpm is around 1500-2000; however, sometimes it will just stuck at 1500 and I was feeling my car had no sufficient horse power, so I have to accelerate my gas more, but the car would stuck a little bit untill I step more, then suddenly speed up with the rpm around 3500. Is this means that I have to do the transmission flush becuase it might too dirty in my transmission?

Sorry my English writing might not as good as well but I try to describe my problem in my own word, and thanks for answering me.

The engine fan in my Explorer keeps turning on for about 3 seconds and then turns off for about 4 or 5 seconds. It does it continuously whether I'm driving or parked in idle. It seems like something is wrong, because I don't remember it doing that before. Most engine fans run for about a minute or so before they turn off for a while.

There is a rather loud clicking noise that could be normal when it turns on and off, but the RPM's raise and drop as it happens when it's in idle about 2-300 RPMS. If I don't have my foot on the brake real good when I come to a stop my car will start to inch forward when the fan turns off. Obviously something doesn't seem right.

That and my airconditioning stopped working this summer. I think I need more freon or something. So I'm not running the AC, and that isn't what is causing the problem.

My car:
1993 Ford Explorer 4x4
4.0 V-6
53,000 miles on it

Any ideas? Is this something I should be concerned about??

I have a kx250, a 2004. I want to make the bike a head turner.
So I deiced to paint the frame and get black plastics and keep the two white side number plates.
anyways; for painting just the frame, could I use normal $4 a can spray paint? I would do it all from sanding, cleaning and primering. On the frame now, there is no rubing stops. Where the paint comes of. Or should i get the Expoxy paint for $10 a can?

I have a 1987 Phantom fish&ski with a 3.0 OMC four cylinder. Most of the parts are GM, like the block and carb(Rochester). I have the points-type distributor that has a stripped out screw holding the points in place. Will a regular dist. from a 4 cyl. GM work? If so, what make and model of vehicle would interchange?

Our 86 Honda Prelude has a decent engine...but a TON of rust on the lower portion of the body of the vehicle. We don't want to put much money into it since it is so old, but it's just downright ugly and still runs pretty well. What is the most cost effective way to fix this? We also plan on running it through a cheap Maaco paint job...
