after about a month i went ahead and changed the oil, after having the place change it I double checked to make sure they put the right amount in and they did, and then about 2 months later I checked my oil to see if I needed to add any and to see if it was very dirty, i had to add 2 1/2 quarts because is was low, with it being this low would it have done very much damage to the engine.

the engine holds about 5 qts. of oil. so no damage should have accrued. it is not unusual for an engine to use some oil during it's brake in time. about 1qt. every 1000 miles if you were under that mileage I would be concerned that something is not right with the engine

Get it checked out. If you have a cylinder leak then that can account for some oil but that is a lot to loose. Check all oils whenever you fill up. Beings that it is a 350 it will burn a little oil but caution whenever more than a 1/4 of a quart burns in very little time.

Was it rebuilt or brand new GM motor? If it was rebuilt take it to the place you had it installed, if it was a brand new GM motor then take it to any General Motors dealer and have it checked out immediately. Most likely it is a rebuild because most people dont opt for the more expensive GM motor. It is not normal for any new or rebuilt motor to burn or use that much oil, so have it check ASAP. You should check your oil everytime you fill up with fuel!!!!!!!!!

Have to ask did you by chance check the oil right after you ran the car? If so it did not have time to all drain down to the pan. If it is cold check it again and if overfilled, drain some out.

I won't hurt it too much as long as you didn't run it very hard. Check your oil more often.
