I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Classic which I love. It's got like 135K miles on it, and I've had to replace some parts but now it runs well. I'm currently deployed for another 8 months or so, so my Jeep just sits, except when my mom drives it to work once or twice a week. She thinks I should sell it and just buy a newer used car or a new car when I get back not not risk having to put a lot of work into my Jeep. However, I think it's worth it to put in a little work into it, and save my deployment money for grad school.

Do you think with the mileage that my Jeep had a few more years left in it? I love it and don't want to sell it, but will if it isn't worth it in the long run. I just want it to last me like maybe 4 more years, more if at all possible. Is it worth it?

It's currently in southern Ohio, where it's ever too hot, never too cold, so weather won't really have much of an effect on it. My mom drives it to and from work which is about an hour and a half, maybe more round trip, once a week and it's in the garage the rest of the time.

That's not really a lot of miles for a newer vehicle. I'd say keep it, and as long as it's getting ran it'll be alright. the hardest thing on any vehicle is sitting and not running.

I'm with you on this one. I think it's a good idea to hold on to the Jeep. Jeeps can go a lot longer than 135K miles. You'll probably be good on it at least until 200K miles. Even still, if you drive it till it won't run anymore, you can still get some good money out of it later, because Jeeps hold their value extremely well. I'd use your deployment money for a downpayment on a house! It's a way better investment if you ask me!

Where is the truck now? If it is in the "sunbelt states" and you like it, keep it. You can put some aftermarket add on to it as an idea to freshen the look and feel like a newer stereo system or some custom wheels.

If you live where road salts are used, think about a newer vehicle.

You could consider donating it to a local school. It would give you a tax write off of up to blue book price. Mom's probably right, in telling you to sell it and buy something when you come home. We have always purchased "leased returns" and my jeep was loaded when I bought it and runs great. I know how you feel about it.

Hey and thanks for being there! Good Luck! HUGS

You are quite right. The jeep will probably keep running, and you can go to grad school. 2 wins no losses--you have a great plan!
