The engine could care less what it has for and induction system as long as the air getting into the engine is clean. The reason you gain HP replacing the air intake system with an aftermarket system is because the stock system was designed with a high priority on engine noise control, they are consequently restrictive. An after market system will add a little engine noise to your car but will have no durability problems as long as you keep the air filter clean and the system is properly designed so that it seals all the dust out.

It depends on many variables.

What type of motor do you own?

Are you looking at a turbocharger, supercharger, or nitrous shots?

The reliability of the engine will most definitely go down if you don't do the tuning process correctly, and if the engine was not built for F/I.

It will require constant maintenance and knowledge about the subject.

As long sit draws cold air form anywhere but under the hood hot environment it's a plus. Keep the reusable filter clean and oiled as per instructions and you'll be fine.
