I understand it's short for hemisphere and the intake and exhaust valves are on opposite sides, but I still don't understand it's workings.

A little over a year ago, I was I got into a fender-bender in Alaska in a car that was owned by a friend of mine. The insurance covered all of the damage sustained by the other car in the accident, but, because my friend had liability only, it did not cover the damages to the truck that I was driving. It was a very minor accident, but caused substantial damage to the car I was in. Fixing the damages is estimated at $2,500 or more. I was not aware that the car that I was driving did not have collision insurance when I was in the accident. Am I responsible to pay for all of the repairs done as a result of this accident?

The car has no signs it has been broken in too and looks like it has just been parked and forgotten. the area it is found is not a dusty area so appears strange!!

I've noticed that some people lean way to the right when they drive, like they're resting on an armrest. Sometimes, they even look like they're lying down while driving. Why do they DO this? Is it supposed to look cool? Is it comfortable? It looks REALLY stupid and seems dangerous, like they couldn't respond quickly enough if something happened right in front of them. They're almost always young drivers, too. Whenever I see them in my rearview mirror, I get the hell away from them. WHAT IS THE DEAL??

I've seen a few places where people have openly ridiculed railfans (it seems to be worse in the UK where they make fun of "trainspotters"). What makes railfanning different from any other hobby? OK so it might not be as cool or typical as say watching football but its a good pastime. And railfans are doing a public service by keeping an eye on things. Why are they the butt of so many jokes?

I'm looking into buying a new car, and I was wondering which was better, based on others' experiences. I've heard that places such as Carmax have decent used cars, but I may need to take the risk of paying for repairs. I won't have to worry about previous owners with a new car, but from what I've seen they're just much more expensive.

'05 Chevy Aveo I purchased it late February '07 from a very respected and trusted dealer in my area with 15,000 miles.

It's a very smooth ride, not bumpy at all, but whenever I go over speed bumps (my apartment complex is littered with them) it makes an airy/squishy sound.

i keep getting blocked in when i park my car on the street infront of my house, people from across the street have friends over all of the time and they choose to park in front of my house, witch i don't really mind. but, they park in front of and behind me litterally blocking me in, i mean i have only 1 maybe 2 inches in front and in behind. there are no yellow markers.... what can i do? can i have one of these guys towed? i gotta work in the morning and the drunks across the street passed out and it takes about 45 min to wake them up knocking on the door and finaly move one of their cars. i have been late for work 3 times because of this. i have to get up even earlier now just to see if im blocked in again. question is, are they are doing anything illeagal?, can i have them towed?, what can i do?

I just turned 16 today and I was going to get my license tomorrow, but I need to know if I have to get my insurance taken care of before I go to the DMV. I already took the test and all that stuff, I just need the license. Can you get your license then register for your insurance? Or is it vice versa?

I have a 2000 toyota Celica with 85000 miles and the check engine light has been on for a long time. I KNOW that it has to to with emmitions and my mechanic said that my cat convetor might be shot. one way to check is to bang on it and listen for rattles.. well it desn't rattle and I have banged on it, so I THINK it's the oxygen sensors. there are two of them and I don't know what is the culprit. parts for that car can be very expensive and hard to find, so I would like to be sure. so what do you think? one both or all three? I also have a cold air intake and I was wondering if that might account for the air fuel ratio being off and setting that light on.

Is a piston the same thing as a cylinder?
What is a poppet valve?
Is a cylinder head just the end part of a poppet valve or is it the underside of the intake manifold?
What is a cylinder head?
Is the intake manifold just a housing for all these components?

I would like answers to these questions, not just articles on WIkipedia... because that is what has me all confused. I know it's a lot of questions, but I'm all goofed up now.
