I'm looking into buying a new car, and I was wondering which was better, based on others' experiences. I've heard that places such as Carmax have decent used cars, but I may need to take the risk of paying for repairs. I won't have to worry about previous owners with a new car, but from what I've seen they're just much more expensive.

it is true what you have heard. used cars can be a HUGE risk, however new cars have big price tags. the choice is ultimately yours, however one piece of advice... if you decide to go with a used car, get a TRUSTED mechanic to check it out first.. and don't trust everything the sales person says they lie for a living.

Both have thier advantages. If buying a used vehicle and if U do not have a trusted advisor, make sure U can take the vehicle to a reputable shop to have an inspection done. It will be worth the $ spent. If the place U are buying from will not let U do that - do not buy the car.
I have owned new and used, and Ive had a new car give me more problems than the used one. A new car will be far more expensive (payment, insurance)initially due to it being new, but most likely will be less costly to operate( fuel mileage, warranty for repairs, maintenance). A used car may be less expensive, but may end up being more costly to operate. Does that make sense? My $.02 worth.

I bought a new car this past summer. I was sick and tired of paying for repairs for my previous used car, and it died on me suddenly. I needed to find a reliable car for a road trip one week after my old car died, and I didn't have the time to search and test out whether used cars were reliable, and I don't live near my parents who could've helped me check out used cars, so I opted to get a new one (Honda Civic EX 2006). I'm going to be paying off the loan for a few years, but I don't regret it.
