I have a lot of student loan debt, and a little credit card debt, mixed with some personal/medical-I've heard that legal help is best, but I'm only familiar with debt consolidation, which I now understand isn't always best and is actually in for profit more than helping. As a family in crisis, does anyone have any good advise?

Hi, I got an offer to transfer a balance to a new card . I not sure how this works.

1. If I decide to transfer, Do I have to close old card because I still have half the limit left on card $1000 and will basically need only $500 transferred. Or will they transfer the whole $1000 and I can use the new card. I didn't want to (close) old card because its bad for credit score, I want to keep it open. can a card be transferred and still remain open??

2. they also offered me a credit limit up to 30,000 but sure they will probably give $1,500. Do I get the $1,500 + the rest of my money of the balance on my old card. please help with this decision.. thanks

I had surgery in 2005 and the insurance paid for it yet they sent me to a collection agency. I got everything taken care of between the hospital and the insurance. I even sent them a signed letter from the hospital that the account is paid. Still getting letters and it's on my credit.

When I was 18 I got into some trouble with credit cards, I am now 28, and I am still being harassed by creditors. I thought after five years of deliquency, those credit cards would not reflect on my credit report. Is there something I have to do to get those credit cards off my record? Maybe some kind of law?

They stated on my credit report that it ws inclued in a bankruptcy (which it wasn't) I haven't had one, yet the card is in good standing. I tried calling and they are telling me ther is nothing they can do as they only can report what they were told from federated department stores. Help. The account was Lord and Taylor

I have the worst credit in the world. I can't get a decent car loan, can't buy a new computer, can't even open a checking account. I have had nothing in my name,(no credit of any kind) in about 9 years. I've never had a bankrupcy. Why have these old items not fallen off my credit report? I thought after 7 years things were supposed to stop being reported. What can I do to stop the credit reporting agencies from causing me to be turned down for something as simple as a bank account? It is difficult to not be able to put your money in the bank!

When I gt divorced I was left with £30,000 debt over the last 4-5 years I have struggled to reduce that to £10,000. At the moment I have reduced my creditors to 6 in number. I have the opportunity to offer them all a 1 x payment of 75% of the outstanding balance in return for a final clearance of the debt. Do they have to accept this offer or can they keep forcing me to pay at my current rate for the next 2 years ?

He has a lot of debt, about $20,000. It relates to back child support incurred while in a situation about 7 years ago where he was unable to work, and ignorant to the idea that he should have went to court to reduce his payments. He came out of the situation with about $15,000 worth of back pay. The only other stuff on the credit report was related to ambulance fees, hospital bills and a Macy's bill. The Macy's bill didn't even list an amount owed, it just said the account was closed. He doesn't know what he owes or could owe to Macy's because he was not the one using the card nor receiving the statements. This was 7 years ago as well.

How can he fix this. No one will give him a credit card, (he's tried.) He pays the child support regularly and my caulculations suggest that at the rate his payments go, it will be 4 years before that back pay is almost gone. He can't afford to give more. He doesn't bring enough home now to pay his rent each month.

Is there really no way out?
