Macy's (and Bloomies) give what are known as GLIs (Guideline Increases).

Simply put, Macy's will approve an increase to your credit line every 90 days if you call and ask for it. Of course, the amount is based on history and usage. The more you spend, the more macy's will be willing to give you.

If you have kept your card in good standing, the GLI is as good as automatic. All you have to do is call the number on the back of your card, and either ask the CSR, or ask to speak to a credit analyst, who can give you more.

Make sure to ask for a "GLI" and not a "CLI". My understanding is that asking for a CLI can lead to a hard pull. GLI requests usually are only soft.

Do you know your FICO score? If your credit history is not too long and only been with them for a short while, you might want to wait a little longer. Do you always have balance on your account? You only mentioned that you pay more than the minimum, did the balance keep increase? Because all department store have very high intereat rate, sometimes paying more than minium is not enough. You have to pay it down (I mean bring down the balace by paying much more then the interest accured and also meet the minium requirement). Otherwise you seems like a high risk to Macy's, and they will not want to increase your credit limit.

Yes, they do increase credit limit automatically, or you can call them and ask them to review your account to decide to increase it.

You could try calling customer service to ask for an increase. I would think twice though. Most retail credit cards carry rates from 15% updwards, and this is alot of interest to pay. Maybe you should consider a regular Visa or MC and see if you can find a rate closer to 10%...all depends on your credit. I don't know your circumstances (ie. age, salary, amount of savings/debt). But you should try to get to a point where you only pay cash for shopping, or use the card for convenience knowing that you can pay it off in full the next billing cycle or two. Debt can really creep up on you and then by the time you realize you have overextended yourself it takes quite a bit of time to dig out of that hole. Good luck.

I used to work for Macy's, and the other fellow with the answer about the more you charge, the more the credit line is, is correct. You also get more services. You need to devote a significant amount to them. One year we went on a cruise, and I had maxed out a number of the cards I had, so I used the Macy's card. $3950 later, (we bought a lot of artwork), the card was maxed out, but I got a better card the next year. I didn't live up to their expectations, but I did some offers.

Get your balance under 30% of the available balance, or pay it off wait a month and then ask them, if you carry a high balance they are more reluctant to increase.

Just call the number on your card. It sounds like they should be more than happy to give you more...
