Most places won't rent to a person with bankruptcy. It sends a message that you prefer to skip out on your bills rather than pay them (even though the new bankruptcy law now requires the person to pay their debt anyway). You may be able to find a place that doesn't run credit checks, but it will most likely be a dump or in a bad part of town.

They might be antsy about it, and they might attempt to charge you an extra month's rent, but that may be it. After a bk, you are not allowed to declare again for 7 years.
You might check your local rent control agency as to what is allowed. Usually they will ask for an additional fee on the application to check credit and a police report.
