I quit my job without giving a 2 week notice. My district manager asked me if I plan to ever come back to work for the company and I said no. So she said that she was going to mark me as non-rehirable. Is this going to effect my employment record? Im a student now and dont plan on getting a full time job for like another 6 years. Would I be able to put this employment on my resume? I worked there for 2 years.

My boyfriend recently got a transfer within his company so that we could move to a different town. He has worked for his company for 3 years and has earnt a good reputation there... however, after 4 weeks on his new account, he hates it. Last week he had an offer from another company who will pay more money and are much closer to home.

He handed in his resignation yesterday and asked if he could leave immediately. All hell broke loose and all his bosses said that they thought it was "disgusting" that he was "demanding" to leave straight away (which he wasn't). His old and new boss (who arranged the transfer) have said that they wash their hands of him and can't believe that he wants to leave after everything they've done for him.

The people at work didn't talk to him anyway - now he will have a very frosty month ahead. He was actually in tears this morning because he hates it so much. He got paid yesterday and a few people have told him he should just walk. What do you think?

A friend of mine is having hard time finding an hourly job at some store or shop. He has been applying for several weeks but doesn't get hired anywhere. I think its because he staples a 3 page resume on top of job application.

I told him resume isn't needed for hourly store or fastfood position. I mean for like $6.15 an hour position, is there any need of stapling a 3 to 4 page computer typed resume? There is work experience section on the application already. Is this the reason why he can't find work?

He says he can't find work, because too many people are looking for work but he cannot stop stapling his resume to job applications. Do you think this is stupid? I think so.

The bad thing is that he is drowning in heavy credit card debt and is now in position that he can't even make minimum payments. With zero income he continues using credit cards heavily, but isn't able to find job.

When exactly do recruiters get paid? When I interview with the company or when I get hired? How can I negotiate when the recruiter has set a "max" for the job? And can I negotiate with the company directly? I don't want to sign the contract if I feel that the recruiter is low balling my salary...I hear you can make more if you don't use the recruiter.

I am desperate, I graduated with a bachelors in Computer Science but have poor communication skills. All jobs require this, and most interviewers immediately disqualify me. I can't get any of the programming jobs because I don't have the experience, so I have been applying for call center, technical support jobs and these require communication the most.

I have no money, have to pay back loans, and probably will have to go to some warehouse and do work side by side with people that have no education and illegal people.

I feel worthless. I know you may be laughing at me.
but I don't know If you could give me any tip or some advice I would be very thankful.

I will be graduating with a bachelor's degree in December, so I have started to send out my resume to a few jobs. The main job that I want, and feel qualified for, has an online application process. I uploaded my resume and answered their questions. I received an e-mail a day later stating that they had received my materials and would keep me updated on my status. My question is: how long should I expect to wait before hearing something from them? I've never applied for a "real" job before so I'm not sure how long it takes for them to make a decision on whether or not to give me an interview or whatever they may decide to do. Thanks!

Some companies require that you allow them to give you a physical exam prior to offering employment. Do you feel it is a violation of your privacy? In addition they require a random drug test during your course of employment. And they will also do a background check! Is that invasive? Is it done for the safety of their work environment or simply to minimize other possible risks?

everyone's saying that elementary school teachers make nothing and I'm a smart girl and I should go into some better....

I personally really would love working with kids and teaching them new things. I've worked at daycare before and done a LOT of babysitting. I love it. But it's true. There's not that much money here. I was thinking of opening up the best daycare ever... with really good programs and very healthy food.

Do you think I should go for it? (of course, I will do all the research and get licenced). I'm 20 years old by the way and sick of studying university math... I hate it! What was I thinking...

I am a transfer student with an AS in liberal arts and I am sacraficing my deam of becomming a pilot for a job that may have some better security. I was thinking about enrolling in Northeastern University's Speech Pathology/Audiology program. I dont know much about it, but my younger brother is deaf and we have been to many before. Any information on salary? If you enjoy it? Also, what kind of courses do you take, like do i have to take many science labs? They are not always my strong point (I barely passed anatomy & physiology) Also, can you be an audiologist without being a speech pathologist? For some reason every program offered at a college has them grouped together. Any insight would be so awesome.

This is the first person to raise the roof when another coworker may miss their one or two days a year due to a real sickness.
This employee also comes to work telling patients how she had been out drinking, and it looks terrible. So naturally , when she misses work, such as today everyone said " I wonder what kind of Halloween party she found last night". She often calls in around holidays and Mondays after a big weekend "of partying." This in the the healthcare field for gosh sakes!
We are all so sick of dragging in sick so people won't work short and she calls in every time you turn around, sometimes twice a month.Any suggestions would be so appreciated. It just has to stop and I guess we , the fellow workers, will have to handle it. By the way this person is in their 50's. Immature huh?

I need to find a job, very soon. I feel like I dont know how to prepare myself though, so it makes me really nervous. When I ask for applications, and when I turn them in, there is usually a lot of people there buying things, does it look bad to wait in line to speak to them? There is a store that I really want a job at, but I havent gotten a call back yet. I turned in the application last tuesday, so I was thinking about going up there and asking about it, is it too late for that? And if there is a lot of people there in line, should I wait in line to speak to the person behind the counter?

My employer just deducted 8 hours from my paycheck, and when asked about it, they said it was because they paid me erroneously for Christmas last year 2006 (aka "Holiday Pay"). It's now November 2007, and I'm wondering how long an employer has to "correct" this type of mistake.

I've been assigned a huge project at work that's going to take a lot of time and effort on my part; and I feel like, if making what I'm making now, I'll be under-compensated. I was just wondering if $1.12 an hour is too big of a raise to ask for. I don't want to look like an idiot when I talk to my boss about it.
