I was hired for a new restaurant, I filled out the W2, signed papers, all that stuff and was told they would call me soon to tell me my training schedule. Well, they have not called and I have been leaving messages for the manager to please call me and let me know whats going on.
Dont employers have a responsibility to let you know if you have the job or not? I mean I didnt go out and look for a job because I didnt need it, I need to start working and I'm sick of sitting around waiting.

I work as a Recruitment Manager looking after a small team and recruiting on my own desk too for a small satellite office. Frustrated at the lack of input or support - about 3 months ago i asked for help. To date, my bosses have not helped at all and often ignore my e-mails or calls. Today both bosses came to visit and said the office is not commercially viable. So, they have given me a choice - walk and the office will be closed. We will all be paid until the end of December. Stay - and I have too sack two people, then they will set targets that I have to meet. these will probably be set far too high to actually achieve - and with the fact that I will now be the only consultant in the office - virtually impossible. If they are not met - they will close the office anyway, but will dismiss and not pay us anything for december. So, I'm backed in a corner - damned if I do, damned if I don't!! Help and advice please?!!!! should I stay or should I go? My boss is calling me tomorrow.

I will be receiving a formal job offer from a company by the end of this week, should I give notice to my current company now or wait until I have said offer in hand? Also, is 10 days enough notice? I want my last day to be a week from Friday, should I just wait until my offer comes?

Hi,

What are the top careers over the next 5-10 years?

I'm currently a 2nd Line Support technician and it's something I enjoy, but I'm worried about my future within IT. I've been considering a career within product design, engineering design, etc.

What jobs will offer good prospects, especially within IT and maybe design?

Do they usually have all your background checks/references back? I only ask because I changed some dates on my resume. They called my references I know that. They called me and said "everything came back" we want to offer you the job contingent on a drug screen. I took the drug screen and was told someone would follow up with me. No one ever has so I don't know what happened. I am not on drugs so it is not that. How long do those tests take to come back?

I have a degree in International Studies (with an emphasis in politics and Spanish) and I have no idea what I want to do with it. I graduated in May and no one wants to hire me, though I live in TX and speak Spanish and graduated at the top of my class from a major university. I'm tired of school and would like to work for a bit, but am not against furthering my education later in the future. The problem remains, however, that even if I choose to further my education with another degree, I have no idea what to study. I have done all kinds of internet research on what positions are out there and still have problems matching my skills and my interests to positions available. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I think if I was an employer I would think more highly of someone who had good negotiation skills and goes after what they want and at least took a chance. What do you think? I will be interviewing for a job in which negotiating advertising rates and packages is my main task (this is what my expected experience is in), if I dont try to negotiate my own pay could that actually make me look less qualified?

I just turned 18, and I'm a jeans-hoodie-and-sneakers kind of dresser, described by many as a "tomboy".

So, I just got a job in a small clinic as a file clerk, and the dress code is "business casual".

How can I conform to the dress standards without being super uncomfortable? A skirt is foreign to me, and wearing slacks makes me feel like I'm 35. I'm also a wuss - I tried wearing "professional" shoes and at the end of the day, my feet were drenched in blood (no joke). I still have trouble walking due to all the cuts and scabs I still have - the shoes were my size.

How can I make "business casual" comfortable for me, and appropiate for my young age? I hate sounding like I'm whining, because I know that's just the way the workforce is, but I'm stumped. LOL.

I worked for a company for a few years, got great performance reviews, and merit rasies, now I reapplied, and they told me I am not qualified! I worked the same job in the same company before. I never got a bad review or written up or anything. What is going on? Could they be holding some tiny little thing that I cant remember against me? What is up? How can be not qualified for a job I did very well before? I did leave at a very busy time to concentrate on college. Could they just be mad at me for that?

How would you go about setting up a non-for-profit foundation?
We are planning to start doing some fundraisers to help pay for the attorney fees for my adoption of my stepson. We want to do things the right way and if possible to make donations/ contributions from the fundraisers tax deductible for the contributors. Would becoming a non-profit be the best way to go?

I want to major in psychology in the University, and I may want to be a doctor.

What I really want to do is;

1. Just like a therapy counselor, hear individual problems and advice, counsel them. But I do not want to be a mere therapy counselor, because it is a low-paying job.

2. I want to be able to prescribe drugs or health food, or at least be able to recommend to people.

What kind of job will I get with majoring the psychology?

Here is the list of what I want from the future job;

1. High-paying salary.

2. Growth possibility. It means, whatever I do, I wish there is a possible way to get promoted or get bigger scale, like moving into much larger space office, dealing with more high-class patients, spreading my reputation, etc.

Is it possible to become both a counselor and physical doctor, that I can prescribe a medicine?

Other than the above, by getting degree on psychology, what else can I become?

Thanks!

I have been asked to sign a contination of employment contract as a while ago my employer got bought out. In signing this contract, I have noticed that there is a line as such: Your normal working hours are 8 to 6 which equates to 9 hours per week (excluding lunch break). Your lunch brake is 1 hour per day.
Does this mean that I am now legally entitled to work for just 1 day per week to get my full annual salary?
I am truly intruiged by the legal implications fo this!
PS - I also get 23 days holiday per year, so does this mean I now can work for just 29 days/weeks per year!!??

Would you recommend any tests be taken when considering a career change? I'm 40 and bored and can't see doing my current job for another 20-30 years. I don't mind going back to school, but I don't want to go back without a very good idea of something that matches my interests and personality.

Are there any good tests for career changers? Obviously, the test itself won't really give me an answer, but maybe it will help me narrow down the options into a usable group.

Thanks.
