I heard temp jobs pay better than permanent ones because they don't give you benefits. Recently I got interviewed by a staffing company RANDSTAD and they asked my salary expectation. I asked them back what would be the range they offer? They gave me a number which is the same as a permanent position will offer me.

If I move on in the hiring process and got the offer, how much is there to negotiate? I don't know what is the normal percentage a temp agency offers you compare with what they will get from their client. Will they be willing to give me more? Can't believe I will have no benefits but get the same money as a permanent worker...

The other thing is I heard after your assignment, if you want to get a permanent position within the client company, it is not possible for you to move without your agency? So what would exactly happen there? I've heard things like the company can hire you only after 6months. So how is my relationship with the agency after my temp assignment?

I just had a 2nd interview for a position I am interested in. Although, it really wasnt an interview at all since it was over lunch. It was myself, and another candidate, along with 3 HR managers. I wanted to send them a thank you note. Basically, I want to thank them for lunch, reiterate my interest in the position. Can someone help with samples??

And just quit on them? I hate my job and never want to go back. I dont have a new one yet, but when I do it is so tempting to just not go back. I have always been advised to write a resignation letter saying how great the experience was and blah, blah. Then work commit to work out a notice.

My mother works as a farmhand for some guy. The guy only employs her and one other guy. Recently in Illinois, minimum wage went up. However my mother has not received the raise in pay and now makes below minimum wage.

Can anything be done? My mother needs this job but it doesn't seem legal for her boss to pay her under minimum wage.

Also, her boss is quite the jerk. So that is why she is terrified to say anything to him because he would take it out on her and make her do extra chores!

i was just in a store and i overheard a store manager talking to an employee about another employee. she said something along the lines of, if she doesnt show up today she's going to fire her and put her on the bad list so she couldn't get a job at other stores. i was almost tempted to ask what she meant by that, but of course then i'd be admitting i was listening in on her private conversation (which she had on the not so private sales floor). anyhow, what? i've never heard of such a thing.

I worked at large department store . When a customer ask me a question. I'll bring three instances.
No 1. A customer ask me where an item is. Another asscate says ( about me) "He doesn't know nothing." Than draws me away.
No 2. Another customer ask me a question. Another assocate answers it before I could say any thing.
No 3. The customer ask me about a product. I tried my best to answer. Than suddonly, another associate "Says he doesn't know nothing." Pulls that item out my hands.
Each time I look at these customers faces. They did not look too happy.
Well, if I Can't answer their question than I would lead them to some one who can. I don't claim be a mister-know-all but I'm not totally stupid. Also you don't want customers to get bad impressions and make more afraid to come back.

I applied for a student worker position a few months ago. The lady said they'd be hiring for the fall around to the first of august and to e-mail around then. She e-mailed me on July 31st asking if I was still interested in the position and i replied "Yeah, i'm still interested in the job." and she responded by telling me what to do next but she also added this, "A little hint-don't say "yeah" when responding to a prospective employer."

i found it a little rude. is it wrong to say yeah? it's not like its a serious full time job, and it's not like i haven't had other jobs before. and it was by e-mail, i'm not writing a formal english paper. i also checked e-mails she's sent me in the past and she said yeah to me. is she just being bitchy?

I had an interview on July 19th and the second interview on July 23rd. I met with the recruiter then hiring manager. They said they would get back to me by the end of the week, but I didnt hear anything. I sent my thank you letters and called the Hiring manager on the 26th who said they had not made any decisions yet and was hoping to make one by this Friday. I am trying to stay hopeful, but the longer I wait the less of a chance I feel I have. What do you all think? Its a HR position!! This is my second interview with this company this year. I didnt get the first job!

I had a phone interview with a marketing reasearch located 3 states away (4 hrs car, 3 hrs train). The employee desrcibed the position to me, it seemed like a good fit, and i was pretty confident that i had a good chance at the job. so i purchased an amtrak ticket and rode 3 hrs down to DC only to find that they were interviewing for a senior-level position. I just graduated with my masters and only have under 1 year of experience working market research. Why the hell would they interview me for a senior position? The dialouge part of the interview went great. I was giving great responses and asking questions. BUT there was the assessment part and i completely bombed because i couldn't do half of the tasks. What a waste of my time and money. Why didn't the first interviewer (over the phone) see that even though i had my master's i was CLEARLY not senior-level? I guess i should've researched it too, but i didn't realize i had to be at a certain level with these statistical programs
