I accepted a job at a local dealership as an accountant. The pay is $35,000 to start & I have to work Monday thru Friday, 8-6, & every other Saturday 10-5. When I interviewed with the current controller & her boss, they explained that I would eventually take over the current controller's position. However, I have been there two weeks, & I have ascertained that the current controller is a TOTAL CONTROL FREAK. She has wanted me to do deposits, book deals, etc, basically the stuff the clerk does. She refuses to show me anything she does on a daily basis. Now I realize I have been there only two weeks, but I have worked for a dealership before doing the same thing. She also set up the accounting system & it must be followed EXACTLY as she has it. She lets me know daily mistakes I have made. I really do not think this lady will leave & if she does, is she going to give me autonomy or micro manage me? I think the job gives her purpose & also did I mention she is the gf of the owner?? Advice?

Ok after you interview for a job and about 3 days later.. they call 2 of your references to ask about you, does this mean they are most likely going to hire you or are really considering you for employment?

This is a mini continuation of a previous job related question. At the end of this week I saw my schedule go from 20+ to under 6 next week. I spoke to someone at work and they said in a round about way that if we are not constantly after customers, greeting them at the door and following up if they need help and this is not done we will not receive the many hours we want and deserve. This individual did not say these things in exact terms but I can still infer the point they were trying to get across. My problem is that I have been a great employee always coming to work on time, when schedules have changed or hours have been altered I have never made a peep about it. Is what this person doing legal and also how can this idividual being a brand new employee be able to do this even though they are one of our upper managment people in our shop. I think they just wants to get rid of me just because they do not like me for no reason I can think of.

I asked this question before and only received one good answer. I did not elaborate on why. My job was outsourced to the Philippines (AOL). Responses varied from mowing lawns to prostitution (which is illegal), and joining the military. One idiot said they never heard the president say Americans won't do jobs that illegal immigrants would do (where have your been?). Unemployment benefits came and expired.

Mowing lawns will not pay my mortgage and feed my family. I am too old to join the military or I would (kinda tells you I'm too old for prostitution also). Someone said I was lazy, but I have a spreadsheet of 83 jobs I have applied for since Feb. I have had numerous interviews but with a B.A. and an M.A., employers say I am overqualified for even call center jobs or office assistant or administrator. The real reason is that they can hire HS grads for those jobs and some appear to be worried that if they hire me, I may be promoted to their jobs (hiring managers).

I am not lazy.

I have reason to believe I am getting an interview within my company for a completely different department. This is the job opportunity I've been waiting for for years. This is exactly what I went to school for! I've mentioned the possible interview to some co-workers and other higher ups. I know my boss appreciates the hard work I do for my department. (I'm in management) Bonus time is coming up in a month and it is at my boss's discretion as to the amount I get paid. I would love to use him as a referance, but I'm not sure what the right move is at this point. Advice anyone?

From what I can find on the Connecticut labor laws I believe that employers are required to pay overtime (1.5 times the regular wage) for every hour over 40 per work week. At my job, the pay period is two weeks long, and my employer only gives us overtime if we work more than 80 hours in the two weeks, not 40 per each week. Is that legal? In other words you can work 60 hours one week, then only 15 the next, and not get overtime pay for the extra 20 hours the first week. I don't think that's right, does anyone else know?

The first is a full time employee, She is older than the other employee so she has more experence than the other. My problem with her is she complains about anything and everything and my other employees are tired of it. Plus she is not learning at the rate at which I previously thought she would.

The second is only part time and much younger, plus they're not as experienced, but they show great promise. My problem with him is they sometimes act childish and like to pull pranks and such.

Both are very hard workers, so this will not be an easy decision when the time comes to make it.

Now that Im older though, I have been thinking about other carrers that work with animals, like wildlife rehabilitation or working to help animals that have been abused and persecuting their neglectful owners. I still want to be a vetrinarian but im worried that I wont be able to deal with the blodd. Would I get used to it? Give me your opinion.

it looks as if it will go through! How is this possible, he quit and moves to PA and now wants to collect unemployment. My husband is a flooring installer and he can hardly afford our bills. How can someone be allowed to do this? He can just go and claim that he was not given his pay (which he was, but my husband withheld some of the last paycheck because the employee got into an accident with my husband's van and wouldn't pay him for the damage. My husband specifically told him NOT to drive the van.)

Now we have to appeal, what should my husband say to win the case.

BTW, this employee lives with his mother and has $600k sitting in the bank so don't think we are trying to screw some poor homeless jobless individual.

And after he quits he moves to PA (we are in NJ), we think since he was moving and he decided to quit, like most people would. Doesn't the person reviewing the case realize that, his address is so far!

I am a special ed teacher and I was offered a new job by a different school district this year. I resigned from my last position the end of the school year. The reason being I didn't like the micromanagement, lack of flexibility, criticism, or the severe needs of the students. The position at this school is a little different but it is still special ed and the principal seems eager to hire me. My dilema is that I have some hesitations with accepting this position because of the problems of this previous year. The real pro for this position is the salary. I'm looking at other job positions within the school system (non-teaching). Accepting a different position will mean less pay but less responsibility, more flexibility, and less stress. Please give me any constructive input or advice. I just want to make sure that I am not over thinking this thing or jumping the gun

I went into this restaurant and the hostess said they hire for servers every week at this time. I filled out an application, then met the manager who took one look at me and said " uh, i'll see if i can find someone to interview you." he came back saying " i noticed you want to apply for server - we havent hired for that position in awhile." i knew he was lying and just didnt like the way i looked.
today, 2 days later, i go online and that exact restaurant had an ad up - they were hiring servers and said " bring your resume in PERSON, interviews will be done on the the spot"
they obviously want to hire based on looks.
can i do something?

A co-worker resigned from an over demanding position, which required her to do a two person job. She asked for assistance, did not get it, so she resigned. It was becoming too much for her and the company did not want to give her a raise or hire extra staff. The company has a hiring freeze and expects other people in the department to pick up the slack for the next six months. They do not intend to hire extra staff soon. Is this fair to the other employees? Do these employees have a right to demand compensation for taking on additional responsibilities? If yes, what demands are reasonable? Should these employees start sending out their resumes, if no one seems to be listening?
