The interviewer is digging into personality dynamics here. This is the most dangerous of issues for you.

Most job candidates assume that the winning side to this coin is the “leader” answer. Certainly, having leadership ability is a positive trait. But what if the interviewer is concerned about a potential employee’s ability to follow directions as well? A safe and strong answer is this: In my many years of experience, I’ve learned to be both a leader and follower. I’ve learned the importance of listening well and being an integral part of a team effort. I’ve also had the opportunity to lead on several projects and have found that I am effective and successful as a leader.” Feel free to throw some accomplishments here.

Peace and blessings!

This question sounded similar to what I got asked:

"When in your life did you encourage a group to get involved more in the given task"?

It was a hard one to answer but I managed to reply with one that I done in Tafe, where a group of us had to rebuild a computer from scratch. You just have to think about your answer. You don't have to answer immediately as the interviewer does not expect you to anyway. If you are unsure with the question, ask the interviwer to clarify it. Don't feel bad in asking this as the interviewer holds no grudges against it.

Think of an assignment you had that involved group work. Chemistry lab for example. Or tell them how you were a president of an organization. Explain to the person how you were able to accomplish goals when others depended on you. That's what they are looking for. If you don't have a story, make one up. If you don't tell it well, you may still get credit for creativity.
