I've applied to around 10-15 jobs. Some are better opportunities than others. Say I get an interview and an offer from Job A that is one of the less attractive jobs, but I've just been asked to interview for one of the nicer jobs? What's the proper way to ask the people from Job A to wait for an answer from me. What's a polite length of time to mull over the offer before I need to say "yes" or "no."

FWIW, these jobs are various science technician jobs, some with Universities, some with state agencies, and a few with private companies.

A few months ago I went on a job interview and after a few questions the interviewer wanted to know my nationality. So, I told her where I was from but later someone told me that it is a somewhat discriminatory question... How was I supposed to handle that?!!

The "Where are you from?" question comes up on a daily basis with instructors, salespersons, healthcare providers... you name it. I do not mind telling them but lately it has become a bit repetitive. Yes, I am answering the same question over and over like a broken record!!! Any suggestions please?!!

I just started working at Disneyland. They make it so that you always have 2 weeks of schedule out at any given times. Its only been a week since I've started working and already twice I've gone to my job and they've extended my shift like 3 hours. Is it legal and right for them to do that? I say I'm busy. The first time it happened they gave me a compromise time. But the second time they made me work about 3 hours extra saying that I should expect to work 8 hours if i'm not scheduled 8 hours. Yeah, so basically, are they allowed to do that? (PS: I'm a minor, but I graduate in 2 weeks)

What type of annual salary should I expect?

What is the salary equivalent for $20 an hour, $25, an hour, $30 an hour, and $35 an hour?

I'm pretty sure it isn't as obvious as (x amount per hour)*(x hours per week)*(52 weeks) because we obviously don't work 52 weeks a year. There are forced vacations (christmas, thanksgiving, july 4th, etc), as long as personal vacations and sick days.

ok, so the night manager at work, apparently likes me. I talk with him a lot and we hold some interesting conversations while at work and people make fun of me for it, but I've just ignored them.
well, now I'm starting to realize that he favors me a lot at work and will do things like give me more tip money than other people (we have a tip jar that we split at the end of the night). and he'll always ask me if I want to stay or go home early for whatever reason, but he wont ask others, he'll just send them home when he sees fit.
just little stuff like that is starting to bother me. I don't think it's fair and I don't know how to confront him.

I was let go from my job this past week. I knew it was coming for about 3 months. Here's the thing. I came back from maternity leave 6 months ago and everything seemed to be going relatively well, with the exception that I had alot of missed days (half days, coming in late for doctors appointments). But this was not anything new, as I already had 2 children at home and always had the same situation.

Well, all of a sudden, I had a yearly review that was horrible! Where previously (2 weeks earlier) my boss could say nothing but great things about me and told me that I was 100% (insert business name), all of a sudden I had never been a team player and blah, blah, blah. 1 month later I had a follow up to my horrible review, 2 weeks later I had another (where I was informed that I had been put on probation 2 weeks earlier). Long story, anyway, I am to keep quiet or get nothing and I have to sign a contract that says so. Do I have any recourse? Please, help me!

i have a pretty good job right now with benefits & retimrent and pretty good pay. also has job security. problme is im a custodian which i cant imagine doing the rest of my life. i have a chance to go to an American Barr Associatoin approved paralegal college, but the schedule there conflicts with the schedule of my job. so in order to complete the program i will hae to find a day time job which probsably wont be as good as my current job, but i will get the good degree out of it and then have a chance to move up and its more of a career track than the custodian thing. so should i quit my good job and temporarily get a worse job for the sake of furthering my future in the long run? what do u think? thanks !

So i'm 18 now, and I want to start making money, working, and learning the value of the dollar. My only problem is what sort of job do I pick up? I've never worked so i have no experience, it wouldn't make sense to jump into something difficult. I'm not a very social person in general, and I mean shy in public, when i say that, but I think i would manage with having to deal with people on a daily basis quite well regardless of that. I just don't want to start with a grocery store job, I want somethign reasonable in a nice environment. I've been considering several book stores such as borders, but how willing would they be to hire someone who has no experience? Any suggestions on an appropriate job? I would rather NOT be on a register, but if that is what i must do , then so be it.

I'm 20, been in the Air Force for almost two years. I hate my career field, it's made me despise people. It would be very hard to cross train into a different field, because my is critically manned. Anyways, I have no idea what I want to do when I get out, (go to school yes), but for what job...I don't know. I've been trying to figure this out for years. I feel stuck, because my current "job" has great perks, but I have no heart in my field. I work hard and with pride, but I'm not happy. I don't want to get out and get a crappy job and say I used to do something better than I am now........I don't know what to do.....I'm not happy and I need some advice please. I have no problem finishing up my enlistment in good standing, I just don't know what to do after that...

I work at this rehab place. Its like a group home. I get paid 8/hr. One of my good friends works here also. She is almost 8 months pregnant. We have a big inspection coming up on Mon., Tues., and next Tues. They want us to deep clean everything and i mean everything. My friend can't be around the chemicals and they don't care not one bit. They expect us to do so much and what we do i think we should get paid more than 8/hr. I wanna look for another job but im trying to stick it out until Jan when i go back to school. Im not telling them im going back to school because the last time they tried to stop my friend from going and when u ask to b parttime the get mad and still schedule us fulltime. They dont tell us nothing. The clients complain saying that we dont feed them enough on wkends and when i told the cook what we do she says that we are overfeeding them Most of them are supposed to be on watch for their weight. Should we sit and wait it out or continue looking for a new job. Help

I've just finished my first year of college and now am back home for the summer. I really need to make money so getting a job is crucial. But at the same time I want a job that I will really be able to enjoy and benefit from. I've done fast food jobs before in the past a really don't see myself going back to something like that. My majors are International Business and Spanish and I'd like to find a job that might allow me to advance my Spanish speaking abilities (I'm fairly fluent right now) as well as enhance my knowledge of the business field. Plus I'm sure it would look great on my resume if I have experience working with my two majors. Does anyone know of any good jobs that I can look into?

I am considering a career in as a sonographer. It seems like an exciting career and it would also give me a great sense of accomplishment. I was going to school to become a nurse, but the idea of being a sonographer first seems like a better goal for me right now.
Is there anyone out there who has that career or is considering it like me? How long does it take to get your license? ( I have about 2 years of college completed already) How much do they usually make?
Thanks for the help!
