I am currently working for a company. It was my first job after I finished my masters degree, in a new city. They were able to get me for a rate which I now consider to low based on cost of living, and knowledge of similar jobs at other organizations. Can i ask human Resources to provide me with the pay bands for my grade? shouldn't this be available?

My employer wants me to continue doing my job but I would be employed by a company we outsource to. This company is not nearly as good to work for and I would lose certain benifits and annual bonus. Other employees that have been let go have received generous severance packages and I would prefer this option to being moved. If I refused to work for the other company what options would my current employer have?

hey..well i'm having this dilemma with two career choices. i want to be involved with the deaf community (American Sign Language), but not becoming an interpreter, maybe a TA for the school system. there's that, AND also pharmacy technician. i would like to take both career choices, but my mom is telling me that they are both separate from each other and wouldn't be a good idea to do. so, i'm not really sure what to choose. i know, i've heard of choose it for your passion for whatever you want..but i have a passion for both, and a passion that's equal, so it's a hard decision...please give me some advice! thanks!

My profession is Accounting. I am currently interviewing for permanent jobs. I want to find a job where I can stay for at least 5 years.

I am looking at start-up companies and public companies.

I know for stability, public companies are probably better. Start-up companies let you come in and define processes though and you feel like you are making a difference.

Any opinions.

I am planning to evaluate the job content, company stability, commute and salary when I look at a company.

What does everyone else do when evaluating jobs?

This is the story. My parents are from Africa but I was born and raised in NY. The other day, my boss (who got hired not too long ago) was talking to me asking me different question on my education etc. First weird question: "How did you get in this country?", I answered politely. Then he went on and asked me what tribe I was from and finished off by saying: "oh you should be grateful and thankful to be alive. People die everyday in Africa, your country" (mind you Africa is a continent).
My question is to know if this can be considered harassement.
He also asked me how old I was ( i did not answer that)

Can anyone tell me what the best way to get a job is. Should I post my resume on Monster or hotjobs.com? Buy the local sunday paper? Is networking a good way? Should I walk from company to company filling out applications? What about a temp agency? I hear that with most temp agency jobs, the company ends up hiring you directly and then you can get benefits. Let me know your thoughts.

Im being pro-active and have already started looking for jobs, but every corner leads to nothing, the only jobs I have found require years of experience, something which I dont have! Does anyone have any advice. I live in Shrewsbury but would be willing to travel within a 50 mile radius as long as it means I can work.
