As a Human Resources Manager, I will sometimes get to the point where I have a few people that are very qualified and would be a good fit. Out of those people, the one that calls to inquire further is the one that gets moved to the top of the stack. On the flip side, the one the calls everyday bugging me about it goes to the bottom.
P.S. If I say we are still researching and won't be making a decision for the next X days, don't call back until a couple days after X day passes.

That is the best way to get a job, where ever you apply. Call back. Ask to speak with the person who interviewed you. Were they still looking to fill that position? Have they filled the position. If the person you want to talk to is out, call back. Call back. Call back until you speak with that person. Leave a message with your name so they know who you are. Show interest, enthusiasm and assertiveness and you will get a job. Beleive me, they are not going to call every applicant back to say that they didn't get the job. And how will they know just how interested and how bad you want the job if you don't show them with your actions! Go get 'em!!!
That whole "we'll get back to you" is a way to sort out applicants who really want the job, and applicants who are professionally lazy.
