As a recent graduate who has been serving with AmeriCorps for the past year, I'm curious as to where I can find information out there regarding average salaries in the nonprofit field? Are there websites or does anyone know how to determine this--if it is possible.

Can this question even be answered as is, or are there other factors that come into play?

I recently changed my career...well in October.. & I have 3 children. In the initial interview, i didnt find it necessary to mention that I have children. I dont think this has anything to do with my qualifing skills, professionalism, or my ability to get a job done. Well, after a few months of working here, i became rather close with the owner. She immediatly referred to me as a "daughter" to her, and time again just assumed that I did not have children, NOR did she even ask me directly. When she is in the office, she is basically running around busy, and directing me to do the same, i did not find it appropriate to just come out and say "Hey, by the way I have kids"...I wanted to tell her in a more intimate setting. Well, after ANOTHER comment about children, i believe it was "WHEN you have your own kids, you'll know the value of a dollar".At that point I said "I DO have kids", she got upset. Was she upset because I burst her little bubble? Or was I wrong for not saying something?

My ex got fired from his job. I've never collected unemployment so I don't know what the circumstances have to be to get it. I only know that when you get laid off from your job you can collect it. Can you get unemployment when you are fired? And if he can get unemployment, does child support come out of it? How does it work?

There's an interview for a bookstore staff position for me this Saturday. The bookstore is part of a holistic-living outlet that organises yoga lessons and gatherings/discussions about New Age stuff. I'm really interested about crystal balls, tarot reading and I used to practise yoga (till I got too busy/lazy to continue).. Thing is, the place is 30 minutes away by train and have to walk 10 minutes there. And I've heard bookstore staff don't earn a lot..I'm not going to do this purely for money, but I don't want to while my time away with minimum wage either.

Some advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

What should you do if someone seems to be intentionally and seriously trying to have you lose control of your temper by doing things like a bold faced lie?

This has to do with employee-employee as well as employee-employer relations.

If you are turned down for a job, is it okay to inquire as to why the company did not hire you? Do they have to give you any specifics, such as if a former employer gave you a bad reference and that is why you weren't hired. I've been turned down on several occassions and have lated inquired at those companies as to why I was turned down and they would not even return my phone calls. Do they have to give you a reason why you did not get the job if you ask?
