I have been offered a new job to work in a secondary school as an ICT Technician. I also applied for a position for an internal position within my current company. They told me I have got the job but cannot give me a specific start date because they need to backfill for our department. They said this will be around Feb. I want to stay with my current company but I'm worried I won't get the position (I.e. will my employer screw me up?) The internal position is a Field Service Engineer (FSE) - I have been told in terms of prospects the FSE is better than an IT Tech in a school. I would appreciate your thoughts. If you need more details just ask. P.S. The salary will be more for the FSE role (eventually).

I know I am good at my job but still seem to lack confidence in front of my colleagues. It is ridiculous as I have been in my chosen profession for many years and have had my knowledge proved many times. I want to ask how I can gain more confidence in front of my colleagues and peers?

I am one of the newer members in my toastmasters group. One of the senior members has the unnerving habit of coming up to someone I am speaking with and cutting in as if I am not even there! Perhaps out of politeness or shere naivite', the other person usually goes along with the takeover.

Is there anything I can do to avert this behavior without ruffling too many feathers?

I've been asked to house sit for a gal I know over Christmas to take care of her two cats and a dog. I'm going to be staying at the house for 8 days while they're out of town. I was wondering if $12/day is a fair price. I will have to drive to work, but it's not really far. Maybe 6 miles round trip.

I just got a customer service position. At training they said something about not getting O/T for over eight hours a day, but I am not sure about over 40 hours per week.
They are also open 24/7 even on Christmas. They said they have the new workers so the workers that have been there for a while get off on weekends and holidays.
Can they force me to work on Christmas. I never have in my whole life. I believe in Christ and Christmas is very sacred to me.
There are emergency calls on the graveyard shift, but I don't even do those. You need special training for them.
Does anyone know if they can force me to work on Christmas, or take the chance of getting fired, because I don't do emergency calls..

I just started a new job and was told during the Interview that there would be work/ life balance. I have now found that everyone there works overtime every day. The previous person who had my job worked through lunches, overtime and weekends.

Some of the hourly workers receive overtime. So, I think that they work less in the morning and extend their work until the evening to earn the extra overtime money.

I have been staying late some days, but try to work from 8:30 am. to 5:30 p.m. each day. Most everyone else in the department is still there. My work is done, so I leave. The people that work for me ask me to help them. I do as much as I can as well as my own work.

When is the right time to leave since I am new at the job? I have previously worked at big companies and was able to start early and then leave on time. This is a small company. The door is locked and I can not start work until 8:30 a.m.

I recently worked for CVS but quit at the 3rd day because I hated it. So i got my check today and my total earnings was $118.40 for 16 hours and they took $16.75 tax off. Then they took $82.88 for termination pay?? So my check was only $18.77. What is this? Is this even legal? PLEASE HELP! THANKS!

I would like to invest in and develop real estate, however I have no start up capital. Should I major in finance or engineering ( lucrative fields to get start up capital) Or should I major in Real Estate to actually learn the most important aspects and insider knowledge of the field. So what would be better Money or Learning the business from the ground up?
