It seems that more and more companies are requiring you to submit your salary requirements when responding to a job post. I don't want to short-change myself, but I dont want to overshoot their budget either. Somtimes it seems that a company will hire the lowest salary bidder as opposed to the best qualified applicant. Am I alone in thinking this way?

I have fairly good experience in that field, this is a commercial firm. I do go to school part-time at night. This is a full-time job 8+ hours a day. I'm guessing about $40k to $45k (midwest area). Opinions? Thanks.

I know that it is not the best way to decide on a job but I am hoping that one of you guys can give me a little advice that could nudge me in the right direction. After MONTHS of temporary work, I have finally been offered 2 brilliant roles. Both are Fashion Buyer roles. Role 1 is product I used to deal with/same suppliers/friendly company/decent travel but a 2hour commute to work. Role 2 is very prestigious product/people a little more aggressive/more kudos/1hour commute/slightly less salary/lots of travel. Both have their good and bad points. Believe me, I am weighing this up carefully and will not choose the job based solely on what is said here but if anyone has had a similar dilemma, I would be grateful for any advice....Thanks! x

I went to college but didn't graduate. I am of above average intelligence, I write very well, I'm well-rounded and a great worker. I'm a people-person, dedicated to the team and, according to my former bosses, a great employee. Now that I'm looking for work again I find that prospective employers won't talk to me -- AT ALL! -- despite what I can do for them, for the simple fact that I don't have that piece of paper. It's frustrating because I know I'm more accomplished and experienced, let alone intelligent and capable, then many people with a degree. Going back to school is not an option right now. I want someone to look beyond the lack of degree situation and see that I'm more than capable of handling any challenge handed to me.

I've been working in a small office for 4 years. I work closely with Jan. She has been there for 8 years and practically runs the company herself. The owner of the company wants to go into semi-retirement & have Jane run everything. Jan knows what's going on better than the owner does. Two weeks ago, Jan had an argument with the owner's wife outside of work. Although their argument was settled, the wife has been very cold & rude whenever she comes into the office. The owner's wife does light office work and is in & out whenever she pleases. Jan is getting really fed up with her rudeness. Jan told me that if her attitude doesn't change soon, she'll look for another job. This would be a huge problem for the company since the owner relies on Jan so much. I don't know if he sees what's going on between his wife and Jan. Should I say something to the owner? What would I say? Should I stay out of it? If Jan leaves, I'm leaving too because I know there would be a huge strain on the company.

I am quiting my job on the 29th of december and was planning on giving 2 weeks notice on Friday the 15th or Monday the 18th. I just found out we receive our holiday bonus on the 15th. When would it be appropriate to give my employer my two weekes: before the bonus or after? Also, is it appropriate to give them notice the day after I get my bonus?

My fiance broke into a house almost four years ago. He didn't take anything and he just left. (Stupid, I know). But it just cost him a really good job. And I was wondering if all jobs look at this and not give a person a chance or do any places not care.I mean he just got a degree in multimedia. He's trying so hard. But this can mess us up for a long time if he can't get anything
