You can have a degree in business and get a job with the title of social worker in some state agencies (dept of social services) though thisis becoming increasingly less common. More and more state agencies are looking to hire people with background in human services and often a BSW. You certainly will not move up the ranks in the social service system with only a BA in business (unless you move out of direct service and into admin)..however increasingly social services are looking for people with a MSW in social work or MA in pubic administration for supervisory positions. There are a few programs still out there that offer an MSW with a concentration of administration and a few new Joint MSW/MBA programs the latter is really a strong way to go.

A master's degree is quite helpful in finding professional jobs in social work. Additional qualifications such as LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) improve your recognition as a person worth hiring.

you can have a degree in anything, but you'd need a Masters degree in social work.

jobs vary, state, local, federal, non profit. Again, you won't get paid well unless you have a masters in social work.
