the correct term is letter carrier & its w/canada post. apply online & after passing interview, obtaining a criminal records check, you're initially hired as a relief/temporary lc. but remember you must be fit, love to walk, & withstand the harsh winter temp's our cdn winter when delivering the mail.

My cousin is a mail carrier, and as far as I remember, she just went down to the main branch in her city (distribution centre) and filled out an application. They hire using a lottery system and you start out working in the sorting room.
