I'm temping at a large corporation. Out of all the workers having lunch in the lunchroom, I have yet to see upper management eating there. I imagine some of them can expense their lunches (at least if it involves a client), but don't they ever "brown bag it" at work? It seems like they are loathe to be seen among the rest of us commoners.

I play Santa at the mall every winter. One of the gags I like to play is when a child is on my lap getting our picture taken, I whisper in his or her ear "I am not real. Santa does not exist." I've sent a few kids home crying but just blame it on them being nervous to the parents. Now the mall isn't asking me back. What gives? How can I reclaim my job and sue for discrimination?

I am 25 turning 26 Jan 3, I don't think I have ambition or a plan and I have a beautiful girlfriend with a child which is not mine. I need help finding something that will attract my attention or help me become more ambitious. I feel that I've become lazy and incompetent. I'd love to make good money, but I don't want to work hard, yet I know those 2 sentences don't mesh well together. I never graduated highschool and my girlfriend doesn't know this. I'm ashamed of never finishing off highschool, and I never told her plus we've been together for 5 months. I've thought about telling her, then going into steps. GED - College - Job, However I feel she wants to start a family and become secure in life sooner than later so I fear losing her if I tell her this. My dad owns Liquor Store and I've thought about just working under him and possibly owning the business later in the future, but im unsure what my dad will do with his business. (He wont really say)

I am 17 years old, and even though my dream is to pursue a career in psychiatry, I don't think that'll ever happen. I think I'm going to end up being on my own at 18...I have no family except for my mother - who is violent (threatened to give me a black eye because some of my hair strands fell on the bathroom floor and I didn't pick it up [only because I couldn't see tiny hair strands]) and I am afraid that she will kick me out any time I upset her. So I think the best thing to do is to be on my own, but I am so scared. For those who moved out at 18, how did you survive? And will it ever be possible for me to go to college even without parental support?

I informed work that I would need time off for surgery, and my line manager said that 2 weeks off was unreasonable time to take to recover, Every time I mentioned that the surgeon had advised at least 2 weeks, she said i was pushing my luck. I was signed off sick for 3 weeks due to the surgery and work have made me feel awkward about taking time off. I have been covered by a sick note although when I called work to advise them of this, my line manager was pressurising me not to use the sick note to its limit. After the sick not ran out I was still in pain and signed off for a further 3 weeks. I e-mailed work as I didnt want to go through the conversation of returning to work early again. Today the company director came out to see me and told me that I have not reasonably contacted work to inform them of the situation. I now want to leave due to constructive dismissal but with immediate effect so that I dont have to go back. Am I in my rights to do this? I am in the UK

I am about 50, and years ago had some work in college dining hall. Am retired college teacher and volunteer minister. Believe working in fast food would be good. Wonder about important points with application, and in doing job. On latter point what are the important skills to learn and perform. What is expected of you? Are there better chains than others? How are you usually trained? How can people serve so many customers? All suggestions appreciated.

Went for a job interview. Felt it was a lousy job. They want the person to drive people around from the airport to the company, 40 miles away. Give up 10 Saturdays to work. Drive around and go shopping for events. Pay for everything first and get reimbursed later on top of working in the office. The job starts at 8am and ends at 5pm. The interviewers couldn't even smile. The interviewers wouldn't even tell me what the place was about.

Do you think this is a lousy job?
