I recently graduated with my masters degree in counseling. I am presently looking for employment, and I need some tips on how to make my resume and/ or cover letter stand out (so I get noticed). Also..any tips on how to get noticed by organizations in general.

Congrats on your accomplishment. Have you thought about interning. I know you have graduated, however, it is a start. You also may trying going to a career resource managment company, they have resources on how to layout your resume and where you might look for employment, etc. Good Luck!

hi, I have also been looking for a job after getting my masters degree (in psychology) and I posted my resume on monster.com, careerbuilder.com, hotjobs.yahoo.com and other job board websites such as hire4jobs.com. The Career Center gave me helpful tips on my resume, including emphasizing the job title and description rather than the dates (of course, you will probably have several versions of your resume, depending upon the job you apply for and your qualifications). Always have a general resume, though, when uploading to job board websites. You can always pay a fee to have your resume and cover letter sent out to thousands of job recruiters, and be sure to put in keywords into your cover letter. Preferably, your cover letter and resume should each be of 1 page, unless you have too many relevant skills to list.
As far as standing out, you may want to network with others...it sounds strange, but many people have told me that networking really helps add clout to one's potential in the job market. An internal reference, as told by my aunt to me, carries more weight than simply sending resume to HR.
Best of luck!
