Wait a while, February isn't that far away. You are talented enough to be offered another job so if things don't work out where you are now you could always apply again for an ICT position. Good luck either way.

As so many wise and wonderful people have already stated: Approach your employer, ask for the confirmation that the job is yours in writing; outline your situation in detail.
* I'd say that you'd been approached to move to the other company rather than that you'd applied. Might make your employer realise you have skills he'd be better hanging on to; skills that others might want to make use of.

i say stick to what you know, if you like your company already then stay with them you are already used to their management style and you have time in with them, the school on the other hand might not be what your idea of it is, listen to your gut on this one though, if you really think that your company will screw you then that does not say much for your company integrity ask around and see if it was ever done before to anyone else (then get in writing),if not then don.t worry about not getting the position you was promised, but also keep reminding them that you were offer that position and that you are really eager to start

Definitely ask for confirmation about the internal post. Inform your department that there is another job lined up and that if there isn't something concrete soon you will have to turn down the post in favour of the other one. They will not want to go through all of the hassle again.

If I was in your place, and you are happy with your present employer, stay where you are. A job in school is not what you think and is usually very poorly paid in comparison with the private sector. After all, there is always other opportunities , even if your present employer, as you put it, may screw you this time.

Explain the situation to them - tell them you really want the job but you're afraid they might not go ahead with them. They should be willing to put the offer in writing.
Good luck
