I've been an Executive Assistant with the company for 11 years. Last year I was given a very big promotion which I didn't really want but accepted it for the experience. It has been challenging but is very stressful, 24/7 (yep .. I work a lot of evenings and weekends).
How do I start to get out? What should I do first ? Should I talk to my boss? Look for a new position in another company? Cash in RRSPs?
My financial situation will no doubt change so I will have lots of re-arranging to do and I am afraid of that. Yet I don't like to be working solely for money. I don't mind hard work but this work environment is not at all fulfilling. It's making me ill.
I'm thinking of cashing in some RRSP's to give me a cushion while I am looking around. I am close to retirement age and don't have alot of money and thought I could work an extra few years but the stress is too much and it doesn't look like it's going to ease up.

I applied for a position in a computer company 9 months ago. This position was introduced to me by my friend and his mother. The boss offered me a sales position, and I turned down the offer indirectly. After three weeks, I wanted to get the job back, and went to see the boss. The boss was busy, and I talked to her subordinate. But, the subordinate did not call me back. I did not know whether the boss was still interested or not. And I did not talk to the boss thereafter. Now, after 9 months, I am still interested with the company. Should I call the boss and apply again? What should I do? What should I say? Do you think I should talk to my friend first or talk to the boss right away and directly? I am really lost and I am so regretful of what I did.

I'm thinking about going to law school, but I want to know what I would be doing it for first.

I'm a journalist right now, so obviously I like writing. Also, I enjoy talking about business models. And I enjoy deal-making, too.

Today we all got a raise equivalent to about 40 cents per hour! I jumped up outta my chair so hard it flew back and whooped OH BOY NOW I CAN BUY A CAN OF POP EVERY HOUR, then remembering pop cost 50 cents I got my chair, sat back down, and starting muttering, will some please loan me a dime?? I was really embarrassed I forgot pop cost 50 cents. Wouldn't you have been embarrssed too?

Ive been working at an afterschool daycare center run by the local city govt for almost 2 years. My supervisor is ona maternaty leave and her boss who ussually doesnt come there cause he supervises a larger organization has been there 3 times in the past week with 2 other coordinators bitching about everything that is wrong with the building and the park even though he put someone else there to take her place while she's out. They came there with a camera and took pictures of everything that they think is wrong with the center like there making some kind of case to fire my boss or possibly everyone that works there. He actually told us that the staff and the KIDS need to go outside and pick up trash off the ground even though the park is not or responsibility and he fired or janitor 1 yr. ago and promised to hire a new 1. he has bipolar disorder so he is scary sometimes. i really enjoy working there but i dont need the money for it cause i have another full time job should i quit?

I have an employee who routinely punches out and then returns to complete her work, frequently for 3 or 4 more hours! She has extremely poor time management skills. I have told her she cannot punch out, and that we must pay her for the time she works. Is this true? If so, why? I want to take disciplinary action against her for not completing her work in a reasonable amount of time, but because she punches out I am not sure if I can. Other people doing the same job are able to complete their work, so it is not an issue of assigning her too much to do.

I have worked at my job for about 3 months and I love it. I really enjoy what I do, and where I work. I am 80% satisfied with my current status. My boss just got fired, and one of my co-workers has stepped into her position. I have hard time getting along with her professionally. I also have to travel an hour each way to get to work.
I "stumbled" upon a job website today, and found the same position that I am in, except with another company, and only 20 minutes from my house.
I don't know how the pay compares.
Should I take the time to apply? I feel like it is too risky, because I really don't want to end up in a position I don't enjoy. I really like my job now, but I am just not sure it's worth it. The drive is really getting to me...

How would you tell you relatives or family, friends if you were terminated from work for the second time?

Actually, my manager was very nice, favorable, and I think considerate about my work and school situation. She'd usually approve of my requests, such as personal ones, or work hours. She had given me chances to come to work at the expected time, and asked me if I could still come in at the expected time, or what time would be best for me to come to work to avoid tardiness. The reason I gave her was my school assignments. I knew was getting late for some other reason or no good excuse at all.

She had realized that I didn't enjoy my clerical job anymore, otherwise, I rarely or never expressed enthusiasm. But, I never admitted to her verbally about my true feelings until my last day. I was being dishonest and honest at the same time. I was staying there for the money, of course, and it wasn't a bad job, though I've been thinking of finding another new job.

Anyone else have a hard time getting a starting position within the casino industry in Las Vegas? I have worked in the "corporate world" now for over 10 years and am dying for a change of environment. The problem I'm having is my lack of experience in the gaming industry. Even a cocktail waitress position is required to have previous experience. Any words of advice that got your foot in the door?
