I live in a small town where the largest employer is closing and 1200 people are will lose their jobs. I have taken off a couple of years to be home with my 23-mo old. An ad ran in the local paper for a job that is -EXACTLY-- what i want and need. Base + commission, own hours, overhead paid, an existing book of business to be handed over to the new person. The retiring person will train for several months. It just so happens that I worked for the person who owns the company 20 yrs ago in high school. It also happens that his now partner I babysat for 25 years ago. However, I have been gone for 18 yrs--since high school. So although I am a home town girl, I have no reputation. But, I had a very very successful ride with my "current" employer, (I sell insurance, and have been maintaining my current accounts only). Rookie of the Year, #1 Sales in state, etc. Should I ask some of my accounts, policyholders to send a tasteful referral? Im competing with people w/ yrs of experience.

I heard something years ago about companies not being allowed to give bad employment references - can anyone confirm this?

The reason I ask is that I'm currently temping whilst waiting for something permenent to come along and in my last assignment the agency I was with got pissed off as they claimed I left a week early without giving any notice, when infact I had actually left on the agreed date. Also, I've just registered with another agency for a temp job coming up soon (only a 5 month contract in data entry), would they bother seeking references for such a short contract?

Anyone in the know, cheers.

37 1/2 hrs per week, It's never a full 40. I'm staying for the medical and dental insurance. But I want to try something else part-time, my hrs are 11:00 a.m.-7:00p.m. Been there a little over 2 yrs, love the crew in the kitchen and the residents. What you would recommend, I was thinking Denny's (early morning) till 10:30 a.m.

Now that I've been fired from a job I was doing just since May 30th, do I put it on my resume or leave it off? I could be a spin doctor and say I took time off to be with my kids before they started their first year of school (which is true, they did start school), or ...? How can I spin it? The university let three other people go before me 'without reason given'--during the 3 months I was there (I was released 3 months into a 6 month probation period). I would just tell the interviewer it wasn't ok to contact my previous employer....help! What to do?

ive been working at this clothing store job for a few months now. it started out fun like most jobs do then now i really dont like it. i havent worked in like a month and the manager called me to work tomorrow (ya, that store is so flexible on hours and has lots of employees so they can do that). i like my manager there, but i really want to quit right now. i guess ive been debating quitting for awhile partly because she's so nice, but now im sure i want to quit. but since im coming back after a month, i think it would be weird to just give the 2 week notice then. my parents are also making me quit there too cuz i had bad grade in summer school. what can i tell my manager tomorrow? would it be weird to say "i'm sorry to say this, but i need to give my 2 week notice in. it's just that school is getting overwhelming for me?" but that wouldnt be believable even if i was scheduled so infrequently as i am, right? would it be weird to add a parent is making me quit? help

I worked for an employer for a number of years. When my employment was terminated (by email) I was told that due to budget restrictions they had to cut some positions, mine being one. Four months later they have asked me to come back, because things are not going so good for them and need my expertise. The money and the benifits are the same as before, but I'm still a little upset about the way I was let go. Is it worth it for me to go back?

I was planning to return to work on July 10, but my former employer terminated my employment on June 26 because HR/management said returning to work for a couple days between vacation and resignation would cause disruption. The company docked my last paycheck. Would this be considered a breach of contract?

I am only 5'0 and want to change my major to accounting but I'm concern about the success rate of landing a good job in the future with the degree in accounting since most of the time I'll be associating with different kind of clients and most people have the prejudiced thought that taller people could do a better job or are more trust worthy in the bussiness field.

Hi there, I am a recent college graduate. I've had a total of eight internships now, and just completed a two-month internship right after I graduated. Recently, I accepted a job offer for a 3-month paid full-time internship. I really wanted to work for the company and accepted an internship with them with the hopes of getting hired on permanently afterward. I was wondering if doing too many internships was a bad thing. If I don't get a job offer from this company after my internship is over, are employers going to frown on me for not getting a permanent job? My hopes are that I get a job offer with this company because I have wanted to work for them for awhile.
