I am only 5'0 and want to change my major to accounting but I'm concern about the success rate of landing a good job in the future with the degree in accounting since most of the time I'll be associating with different kind of clients and most people have the prejudiced thought that taller people could do a better job or are more trust worthy in the bussiness field.

I habe been an accountant for 5 years and height plays no role whatsoever. I worked with a woman who had been promoted very fast and was very organized and smart but was a "little" person and was probably only about 4' 10" One of the most successful male partners at my office is only about 5'1" and I know for a fact he makes about $650,000 a year. Even our managing partner who makes over $1M and is in charge of 250 employees was only about 5'7" and weighed about 150 lbs.

I've heard that taller people are generally more successful in every field and that not only are the higher paying jobs/grades normally filled with taller people but taller people are more likely to reach promotion as well.
Tall people are seen as busy and successful and most importantly capable where shorter people aren't.
Mind you the study I read on this was conducted by two 6ft women so they may have been biased in their findings

I was a business major.....not accounting though.....but I think based on what I've seen so far in my post-college work, that height doesn't affect a position like accounting or financial type affairs. It comes more into play when companies are looking for higher up positions.....and even that can be countered with intelligence or a very likeable personality. One thing you didn't mention is a low voice.....studies show employers also subconciously or whatever.....go for someone with a lower voice.

I work in accounting and some of my colleagues are pretty short but are extremely good at what they do. It's all about being confident in yourself and knowing your stuff. your clients will respect you no matter what as long as you are confident. You could also look into different fields of accounting, like foresic acccounting where you do not deal with your clients on a regular basis.

Trust me: it's true in MOST fields. I'm under 5' and have always been under-employed (even with my Bachelor's degree). Sadly, it's a bias that most people hold. Consider a career in education. It's an area that holds the least degree of prejudice.

Good luck!

No. Your knowledge(intelligent) and confidence are the keys to the bright future ahead of you. Don't ever underestimate your abilities and just try your best to do your job! Also this doesn't only apply to accounting, and as for all the professions out there, too. Good luck with your choice!

It's brains over brawn, they aren't not going to hire you just because you are short, tall, whatever. They want to see hard working people, intelligence, and a truthful person, so then they can actually TRUST to do the bigger things instead of finding out you lied.

Yes. I know at my firm all the work papers are kept on a shelf 6 feet up.

no, most accountants sit behind a desk anyway so height should not matter. Besides you will impress them by your professionalism and knowledge.
