Hi there, I am a recent college graduate. I've had a total of eight internships now, and just completed a two-month internship right after I graduated. Recently, I accepted a job offer for a 3-month paid full-time internship. I really wanted to work for the company and accepted an internship with them with the hopes of getting hired on permanently afterward. I was wondering if doing too many internships was a bad thing. If I don't get a job offer from this company after my internship is over, are employers going to frown on me for not getting a permanent job? My hopes are that I get a job offer with this company because I have wanted to work for them for awhile.

I think it is common this day and time for people to have several job changes over a careers lifetime. That said, if you are truly trying to diversify your experience then I think it is understandable.

However, a review of your job history can prove fatal if it looks that you are jumping from job to job. They may think you are flighty or not able to get along with others. If you have glowing letters of recommendations from your ex employers that will help. There is usually a place on a resume to list a reason as to why you left a job, that is a great place to explain. If a company hires you for full time work, it is different than if they hire you for an internship. Internship usually implies that the job position is a training position and is probably to be short lived.

I will say that if you have had eight internships that seems to be a lot, you should have some direction by this time. I would find a job and establish myself and stay grounded for a while. You cannot build your life jumping from job to job. You will not be able to take advantage of benefits offered by companies without staying a minimum of time for things like insurance, 401K's, etc.

Good Luck as you begin your next chapter in life.

As long as you are able to get good references from the internships I would say it isn't so bad. Are all the internships in the same field? If so then it can be very good job experience. But if you want to get hired on full time you should let them know up front and then do a really good job. Go above and beyond to do a good job and show you care and most likely you will get hired full time. If you have a years worth of job experience through internships it is time to get a full time job. If you don't have a year I would continue with internships until you have a year of experience.

The more internships, the better. This will count as work experience.

it will cause a flag to go up. their question would be " why no job yet?" or they might think "can't hold a job". get into the job for at least 1 year.
