37 1/2 hrs per week, It's never a full 40. I'm staying for the medical and dental insurance. But I want to try something else part-time, my hrs are 11:00 a.m.-7:00p.m. Been there a little over 2 yrs, love the crew in the kitchen and the residents. What you would recommend, I was thinking Denny's (early morning) till 10:30 a.m.

I'm a 46 yr old retired waitress, worked in that line for the better part of 30 years. I think that if you took a job at Denny's in the early morning like that, plus worked in the retirement home, you would be wiping yourself out. The mornings are very intense at Denny's and then working til 7:00, makes for a very long day. I have a suggestion....I have a home business in the health and wellness industry that is going very well. What if you were to keep your job at the retirement home, and start a home business that you could build while keeping your steady income? I think you would be surprised at how quickly it builds and just how much income you could earn. I've been doing this since April, and by the end of November, my income will be at the $64k/yr level...and that is without working full time hours. It is because of the product. I just tell people what it has done for me, and they are interested enough to order it.. I really can't believe how well it is selling actually.
By doing this you would also receive tax benefits, so this might be something to consider. Many of the waitresses I worked with in our "old girls club" have decided to do this as well because we're not getting any younger and those trays just keep getting heavier!
Something to consider.

Maybe try for a job as Maitre D, the pay should be better and the work is easier but more responsibility. Many nice places are looking for a mature person to handle that role.
