I pay all the bills, except for the groceries, gas and her "mad money." I don't eat at home, and the groceries are just for her and a 3 and 5 year old. I'm thinking she is WAY excessive, and she is thinking the sam about me. Financially, she's killing me...any one out there with some opinions would be appreciated.

I got a letter in the mail from the IRS stating that I owed $10k from my 2005 tax return (with interest and penalties). Turns out that there was a reporting error from my bank which caused this problem. Apparently, I had some stocks that the bank sold in favor of more favorable stocks, but the purchase of the new stocks was never reporeted by my bank. So, in a nutshell, I was supposed to have paid taxes on the full amount of the sale - not the cost basis.

I contacted my bank and they are able to furnish the documents to me to fight this rediculous bill. So, back to my original question: How do I fight the interest and penalties??

Thank you from the bottom of my wallet! :)

I moved into a house one week ago in North Carolina. The house did not come with a refrigerator (which I did not realize until after I signed the lease), and they told me I would have to provide my own. The major problem with the house though is that the air conditioning is not working. I informed them that it was not working the day I moved in and realized this. They said they would fix it and have sent someone to repair it. They have said it will be done today, tomorrow, etc. Now they are telling me the compressor has been ordered and it should be fixed by Friday. I am five months pregnant and have a three year old child. It is absolutely miserable and extremelly hot. I have been in the house for one week now and Friday would make 10 days with no air. Does anyone know how I can break the lease?

Six weeks ago I left a professional job, and my co-workers were sad to see me go. About 2 weeks ago, I emailed several of them with my new work contact information, as they asked me to do. It's been days, and only one of them (out of 7 or 8) has responded to my email. It's as though now that I don't work there, they don't want anything to do with me.

I'm trying not to take this personally, but it hurts because this company claims to have such a great, friendly, supportive culture. I'd never in a million years have believed they'd ignore me this way, although I must admit that I heard a rumor (before I left) that the CEO really frowns upon employees socializing with former employees. Huh? Are you kidding me?

Should I just move on and forget about them, and concentrate on making friends in my new position? Should I email them again? What would YOU do in a situation like this?

Serious responses only, please. Thanks!

I have been working at my place of business for about 3 years now and it has just recently changed ownership. I know that there is both a replacement for myself and my boss, but still no one has told me anything as to when I'll be leaving. My old boss is going to pay me for yesterday and Monday, but now for the rest of the week, I have no idea how I am going to get paid being that I don't even think the new owner has an account set up. I was hoping that they would've gotten rid of me already in all honesty, because I hate that they think I am at their beck and call until they decide to give me the ole' pink slip. Does anyone else think there is something wrong with this picture? What would you do if you were in my shoes?

Ok, this is a bizzare situation.
I rented an apt. for the first time, and neglected to read that I had to give 60 day notice before my lease expired. Instead, I assumed that I would have to leave when my lease expired unless I renewed it.
Well, I bought a home, and made the above assumption. Now, I have to pay 2 months of rent (until they can find a renter). It says so on my contract. They'll hold my $250 deposit till then.
So, what happens if I don't pay the 2 month rent? Or rather, what are my options (adding rent to mortgage payments is suicide)?
I know they are legally right, but I am trying to squirm myself out of this one.
