Travel - 28 September 2007

We are looking to move back to the NE to be around family and I've been considering Brooklyn.
We are looking for a place that:
1. Has great public transportation AND you can walk to grocery stores, restaurants, coffee, etc. I don't want to be driving everywhere.
2. Is SAFE. We have a 2 year old daughter and it is very important that the area is relatively safe.
3. Somewhat of a nice area that isn't ugly to look at. Maybe with parks and trees somewhere nearby.
4. Not TOO expensive. I realize that all of NYC is expensive but if there is a nice, safe area that happens to be a little cheaper that'd be great.

Does a place like this exist in Brooklyn and if so.....Where?

Greetings! I'm a size 22/24 in womens figured clothes for the US and am having a difficult time trying to find a Furisode Kimono (long sleeves almost to ankles).

I do have a kimono I got at an anime convention. I believe it is a a tomesode-its black with colorful flowers and spirals and cranes and has short sleeves. The sleeves come to my right above my knees.

So, can anyone help me out?

What are the best hospitals to work at in NYC? I would like to eventually become a radiological technician but I am currently looking for any type of work at a good hospital to start my career. I am talking about in Beijing, Shanghai and other major cities. I know they are cosmopolitan cities but this is China we are talking about. Can people hug at the airport without being branded as offensive? Can girls wear shorts or mini-skirts without getting dirty looks? What are the things that a foreigner would do to get evil stares from the locals? Are there no-nos?

i am here on a holiday for a month and its just really weird because this time round it feels really boring.

its just that i have my aunt and her family tagging along with us and i just feel bored and homesick.

i know that i should be having fun but because i have recently started liking this guy its made me feel different. i just miss him terribly and i dont know why.
im thinking about him constantly, like 24/7. i cant get him out of my head. i see things everywhere reminding me of him, people, places, clothes etc.

am i just being stupid or is this some sort of sign pf something?

We have driven extensively in America and Canada; been East to Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand; visited the usual places in Europe (Italy, France, Greece, Austria etc.) and been on a number of cruises. We are going down the Nile soon. We have never been to the southern hemisphere, China, India, Russia for example and Australia is a bit far.
Any serious ideas?

Well I got my Tetanus and Hep A Gamma Globulin....but I have been told by the Travel Clinic and my doctor that Typhoid is endemic to China and I should take the Vaccine.....but I have also been told by many that they have gone without this and been fine. Granted an upset stomach and diarrea, etc. is expected (even when following best practices) but I'm not sure about the Typhoid because I always associate this with Rural areas. I don't mind spending the money if I really need it but if I'm taking it when the chances are next to nothing well that's just seems extreme and unecessarily expensive.

I will be staying with my Chinese Girlfriend's family in a humble, urban environment for my stay in Wuhan and with her friends in Beijing and Shanghai.

Does anyone have an opinion or experience with this?

The flight leaves at 11:30pm, but the hotel requires us to check out at 11:00am. We want to go sightseeing and hang out at the beach before we go to the airport, but what do we do with all our luggage since we can't leave it at the hotel?

I miss Hong Kong. I am sick of boring Canada and would like to go back to my hometown. Last year when I went back, I felt like home. No more English, snow, taxes, etc............Why would people migrate to Canada!?! Doesn't make any sense to me.

I have a car, I rent a room, and I have no recent vaccinations, no passport, no work visa, no equipment, etc...I know nothing about international traveling, but I am going to go to new zealand in december. I was on line earlier looking at booking a package for our honeymoon. We wanted to spend more money on a nice room at sea and stay at one of the all-star resorts at the park. They would only let you chose one of the 3 higer price hotels to stay at the park. Is it better AND cheaper to book through a local travel agent in our town? We just wanted a cheaper room at WDW park since we are never going to be there in the room that much. Thanks
