I am talking about in Beijing, Shanghai and other major cities. I know they are cosmopolitan cities but this is China we are talking about. Can people hug at the airport without being branded as offensive? Can girls wear shorts or mini-skirts without getting dirty looks? What are the things that a foreigner would do to get evil stares from the locals? Are there no-nos?

People hug and kiss in public, One of the main summer items that girls wear are hotpants, and the shorter the skirts the more popular ... so China is not conservative regarding those issues. A foreigner doesn't really get evil stares, but they do get stares, curiosity stares ... and quite a lot.

Don't make out nude in public? lol

No, the younger generations who have exposure to western media are wearing mini skirts, holding hands, and all those hugging everywhere they go. but after all China is still a country which is rooted in Confucian values so it's not as openminded when it comes to sex.

There are conservatives too in the US. There are christian girls who would wait to have sex until they get married.

Let's just say China is different from the US or the West. You can't really compare with one standard.

You should learn more about China before traveling there. you obviously have a lot of misconceptions about the country and the people. Ignorance can result in offending people.

Unless you do something that's REALLY stupid (like walking down the street drunk and mooning cars passing by), nothing would happen, just act normal.
