To common persons, colleagues, and even strangers who give salute, I start thanking Allah for everything and reply I am fine.
With close persons, my reply would be elaborated with further few words expressing delight or grief depending on the situation that influenced me.
When a close person asks how are you , he is interested to know how do you really feel and why.

My response will definitely be different from person to person. I deal with lots of people everyday at work and "how are you doing?" is more used as a greeting than "hello" or "good afternoon" so my usual reply is "I am good!".
But if it's my husband, mom or close friend that asked me the same question, my answer would certainly reflect how I truly feel. Don't you do the same?

it won't be the same, if it's someone i don't know well, i will just say fine thx, if it's someone i know well, a relative, a friend, i would probably add something more than just fine :) it also depends on the person's health, if it's someone close but depressed or ill, i will probably omit anything sad and concentrate on being cheerful, so it varies from person to person and it also varies on my mood, sometimes i'm in not in the mood for sharing with anyone, close or far so it would be "fine thx, and you ?"

lol @14 i might say i'm The Unknown at cases. i'm terrible at wording issues to start with, yet most of the time i'm listening to music so i'm a million/2 typing and a million/2 listening(like actual now) so some issues I say do no longer make lots experience. I constantly verify back later and re-study my reaction regularly restoration it so its greater handy to appreciate. sometimes i seem back and ask your self what the heck i became attempting to assert.

It depends..If I'm fine I'll answer everyone "Fine, what about u?"..
If I have a problem I'll answer the same answer to all except my best friends..I wouldn't lie..I'll tell them..that's why they are my friends...

first i say "great thx God"
then if he/she just a normal person to me i'll not say more, may be "am fine thx God, how about u?"
but if a close one asked it will differ for sure
"yaaa am fine thx God, how about u? and do u know that i was so n so n soo...."

yea.. i have a diff response for everyon eliek if my teacher askes how are u ill say ok .. but if my best friend askes me and there is something wrong ill tell her ... and shell know how to amke me feel better

i say hi I'm fine thank you how are you if i want to make conversation. If i don't then i just say yes.

if i'm really fine, i wil say it regardless of whom am i talking to.
if i'm not ok, i will say "i'm not fine" to the people i really trust and very close to me
