How exactly do those who claim that Egypt won the war support this claim?
From my understanding of the following facts:
1. Egyptian casualties outnumbered Israeli casualties
2. By wars end, Israeli forces had crossed the Suez and stood 100 kilometers away from Cairo
3. The Egyptian third army was cut off and trapped in the desert with no food or water
4. The Soviet Union felt the need to intervene militarily on Egypt's behalf (they eventually backed down after the US threatened to join on Israel's side if they did)
5. Syria scrapped its planned counterattack after the ceasefire because it knew that Egypt could not afford to re-enter the war
I would say that Egypt lost the war without a doubt. I agree that it was not a humiliating defeat like 1967 was and that they did win the battles of the first day or two. However, that it wasn't a humiliating defeat and that Egypt won some battles does not make Egypt the victor. I'm seriously interested to understand the rationale.

I want to take a trip to Montreal with my girlfriend. We live in NYC, so we would fly there and stay in a hotel downtown. However, I went to college in a town just across the border, in upstate New York (SUNY at Potsdam). One of the days we are in Montreal, I want to rent a car and take my girlfriend to Potsdam, just for the day. Potsdam, NY is about an hour form Montreal, maybe 20 minutes across the border.
Would the car rental people give us any hassle about taking the car (rented in Canada) across the border into the US, even just for a few hours? Would there be extra fees, paperwork? Do we even need permission? Would we get stopped at the border?
Back when I went to college (10 years ago) the borders were pretty lax, but I think they have stiffened the rules a bit.

If I drive through a toll booth that says 35c "exact fare" and I have only quarters, throwing in 50c, while the booth doesn't signal me to pass, and I still pass (from the execessive honking behind me), would I suffer consequences? I'm worried about the exact fare thing....

All I can remember is a huge farm house with a big court yard and steel ornamental fence on the front. Mom married a German soldier in '42 and she stayed till given Russian occupation ultimatum in '45; divorce or move., I remember a barge with many women and kids, babies, baby carriage and feather bed, (just the feather cover ) and that's all. I've never been back. Mom, 85 , goes back every year. She had 5 sisters , 2 still alive, one last jear went to a extended care old age home. I know that one of my cousins family has a vinyard and sell their own wine. Mom brings back momentos every year for all of us. This year my sister went with her.
The odd time I feel nostalgic and wonder whether I should leave myself with the memories i have or take a chance and go - taking the chance of having my idea of the old place, "The Burst Bubble syndrom " I think it;s called, destroyed. Also called a reality check. LOL

First of all, I want to make it clear that I am a die-hard right wing and an American patriot. I am not some mindless freedom hating communist robot. So if any of you want to call me a lib, flick off!

I spent a the last month traveling around China and I must say that our understanding of the place is just.... pathetic.

We just love to think of Chinese people as mindless drones enslaved by the goverment but the fact is that they are NOT! I would go so far as to say that if you asked someone of equivalent status to you or me (i.e., just the average worker or student) they would know more about America then we do about China.

There are so much false info out there. People are writing about how Chinese people 'eat everything even each other or their own children' or 'have Christians throw off buildings and cook them into pies'...etc.

They are not ture! If this goes on China will take our place as the super power. I am sure we won't want that.

Well, my dad was playing basketball with this guy I like, and my dad won the game flawlessly (right in front of me). Would a Turkish guy feel like a coward because of this? Would he be disinterested in me, because he knows my dad is pretty tough and may not approve of him?
