My mom was going through the garage last week and found my grandfather's old tacklebox... said it was mine, so I took it home and pulled everything out, and I've got one little treasure... it's an articulated brass (?) lure shaped like a fish (or he had jewelry in his tacklebox) about an inch and a half long, red glass eyes... beautiful, and I'm using it on a necklace now (no hook anymore).

Anyway, here's a pic of it... http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=6kk6hl0&s=1

If anyone knows anything about it at all, I would greatly appreciate it... value would be nice to know but it's worth more than whatever it's worth to me.

I haven't climbed in years but I found my old Chournard harness and the rest of my gear in the back of my closet...
It's been dry, warm and visually looks ok, and I can't say as though I fell more than once while using it. I need some liability free advise here, use it or replace it ?

I love caves and have been to lots of them all over the country including Mammouth cave in KY the largest cave in the world, but I havent been to carlsbad caves yet. Have you ever been exploring in the woods and discovered a cave or cavern on your own?

I'm plan on buying a Prolight 4, and was wondering if there was that much of a difference between the regular and the women's. If so, the women's sizes are 20 x 66 and 20 x 72. I'm 5' 10. I'm new to backpacking and I didn't know if there was something special to getting the right size. Obviously I was thinking of getting the bigger size, but I wanted to make sure those extra few inches were neccessary, as the larger size costs about $15 more. Thank you and any help will be appriciated.

I was target shooting with a friend awhile back and something very strange happened. i have a kimber pro-carry .45 and i was using Wolf 230 gr. fmj. While i was shooting, about the third round in the mag., I pulled the trigger and the gun kicked, stirred up dirt about 20 feet ahead of me, and i felt something hit my foot. i looked down and the bullet was sitting right beside my foot. the bullet was not deformed, but one side of it was rubbed smooth, free of groove marks. asked a few people what may have happened, and they each had different opinions.

1 a man with a considerable amount of gunsmithing, said the primer went off, but the main charge did not. however, the gun kicked just as hard as always. Wouldn't that disprove the theory?
2 another said the bullet came out like normal, hit the ground causing the rubbing marks, and bounced back and hit my foot. But would it have hurt much worse if that was the case?
3 the last said it justdidn't have enough powder to go anywhere.

OK guys, what is everybody's preferred brand of buckshot and slugs. This is for an 870 smoothbore that can shoot 2 3/4" and 3" shells. has anybody tried the Hornady buckshot?

Also, please no posts saying buckshot doesn't kill. I've shot 4 deer with buckshot at 35-40 yards and all dropped on the spot. The longest one ran from buckshot was 20 yards. (This could be from the fact that I used 000 on all of them.)

I like to smoke cigars when I'm out in the woods. I do this because (a) I enjoy them and (b) I think it masks my scent. Thing is, does this spook deer?

I have been watching a buck on our property that has at least a 180 in spread and double tropped tines!! he is a monster and I have only seen him once but didnt have my gun or bow with me..never thought I'd see him again untill my brother in law went hunting back there and on his way out later in the morning he spooked the same buck out of his bedding area..or at least we think..the buck didnt act like he even saw him..just got up and went running across the field..he shot 4 times and made a clean miss..do you think that if we dont go down there for a while he will return to his bedding? thanks!

We all know about Dick Cheney's mishap, with pellets from his gun hitting a friend in the face. But few people know how the millionaire ranchers get their game? The grouse Cheney was after were raised in pens, then released into the "wilds" of a ranch. He was driven to the spot where the grouse were gathered, with Secret Service men and other aides along for the ride. His gun was handed to him and he took aim...but it ended in tragedy. My question is....can you really call this "hunting"? Is it fair to the game you are seeking if they are protected and fed until you decide to chase them down? The hunters I know trudge through the woods after wild game and the birds or animals have a fighting chance. Do you call this programmed, arranged target shoot a "hunting trip"?
