Im just bored and feel like throwing this out there. I love caves and have been to lots of them all over the country including Mammouth cave in KY the largest cave in the world, but I havent been to carlsbad caves yet. Have you ever been exploring in the woods and discovered a cave or cavern on your own?

I used to do a lot of spelunking (cave exploring.) It's much more fun than touring the "commercial" caves like Carlsbad, Mammoth and Luray (not that they aren't cool, too.) We would all have our own headlamps and some of the caves required ropes and ladders to get into and out of. It's really not safe to enter a cave alone or enter one you just "find" in the woods. The fact is that spelunkers are real fanatics and chances are they have already discovered any cave you are likely to find anyway. Due to them being used by endangered species of bats, many "wild" caves are restricted to access except by permission from State environmental authorities. And most are on private land. However, if you want to sample the real caving experience, look up your local chapter of the NSS (National Speleological Society.) They are always very cool (if somtimes odd) people and you can join them on trips to the most unusual and awesome caves in your area.

My husband and I LOVE them. Have done the 8 hour "Wild Cave" tour at Mammoth Caves and wandered most of the other caves there several times. Done Carlsbad, Wind Cave, Luray -- andy and every cave we can find. Got 'accidentally' (on purpose) separated from our tour group at Luray and left in the dark for over 15 minutes -- THAT was great. Did the 'blue spark' mint test in the dark (it really works). We actually plan vacations around what caves are in a certain area.
